Question: Compression socks and arm sleeves?

I wear compression socks all day at work. Been doing that for over a year now - seems to help keep my legs from feeling dead for the PM run. Definitely a great thing to do when you sit at a desk most of the day. I don't like running / racing in the longer socks, though. For one thing, they don't seem to stay up on my legs, and if they drop down that drives me insane. And I'm not sure it really gives that much of a performance boost anyways. For recovery, I think it definitely does.

Arms sleeves... they look cool! I've worn them for a few cold weather races when temps are in the 30s.

I love them both! I race in compression socks in the fall/winter/early spring and drop them in the summer. Arm sleeves are great, especially when racing. If rolling them down is bothersome, just cut the ends off of some old socks and you can toss them to the side when you are warm enough. Plus they make you look really fast and intimidating!

The reason I can't race in the socks is primarily b/c the Saucony ones don't stay up as well as my CEPs when I am running fast, and I can't wear the CEPs in public! :-)

I also got a pair of smartwool compression socks on steep & cheap - really like them, and since they are wool, they don't smell!

I thought about picking up a pair is why I ask. With upping my mileage again I am really feeling it in my calves. Also, going back to my first two marathons it was calf cramps that did me in. Subsequent marathons not so much but I've been out of it for awhile and know there is not too much time left to get back to where I was in 2008 so right now I'm looking for other tactics to come through the finish in one piece.

I'd get a pair if I were you. Try 'em out for running - for most people they stay up and lots of people swear by them. But for recovery, at work during the day, I think you'll notice you feel a lot better if you wear them regularly.
