I rank somewhere between the competitive recreational runner and the competitive highschool runner. Here's the scale:

10 - World record holder; 9 - Olympic Athlete; 8 - National elite; 7 - Professional runner; 6 - College All-american; 5 - College runner; 4 - Local elite; 3 - Competitive runner; 2 - Recreational runner; 1 - Jogger

It's a tough scale.

Short-Term Running Goals:

  • Run for fun and health, be fit in my 40s
  • Run a strong half marathon, under 1:25, good, under 1:20, great.

Long-Term Running Goals:

  • Be a disciplined runner, to be competitive in my age category, and feel strong while racing.
  •  Somehow actually put together a full year of running: increased discipline and decreased distraction and injuries
  • Be a 17/36 guy for 5K/10K (not realistic now)
  • Be a competitive Master's runner

Personal:

Spoken for, Christian, piano player, soli deo gloria, at least that's the ideal. Living for Triune God, beautiful wife, cute sons, self; hopefully in that order but Adam's nature and my own choices, not to mention worldly temptations like to play with the ideal.

Idealism, tempered by reality, with a healthy skepticism.

Got there just in time to jump in. Paced myself but still made hilarious wheezing sounds. Didn't stop which is mildly surprising. Passed a few people but didn't have anything in the end. You get out what you put in. Phin also ran, gotta work on his stamina.

Had a wonderful time limping back and forth to watch Phin start and Nate run. Watched from the top of the hill to see Nate finish through the trees.

A little jogging and stretching, playground w Jo. This is what 1.5 years of no running looks like.
Started off easy, a few dogs and sprint/walkers ahead, walked at first left after park, found a marine shirt lady to keep track of. Jo & Grandpa said hi just before mile (straight right after park, around 9:30? pace). Walked and side-stepped, hip hurting, was feeling bleak, man passed who I kept in my sights the rest of the race. Somewhere here the self talk (just jog, you can walk on the uphills) finally matched my body as I my right hip finally got the message. Jogging was finally a matter of will and breath, not pain. Passed another buck walking on the downhill, came to 200 ft puddle in the road, walked on the left where marine lady took slower right so I passed her. Counted myself as 15th? Bill Cobler was in 2nd to a younger guy who ran 19:38.
After turnaround let marine lady pass back as I walked around puddle. Paced to the top of hill where I figured to catch guy and lady on the downhill to park. Dad and Jo said hi again 1/4 mile from park. At that point I was pushing my breathing but I did catch her who had roped up blue guy. But then slow on the uphill, they pulled away, turned right and would have caught lady but went straight rather than turn to chute.
Thanked her for the pacing. Didn't stick around long, coffee and donut and showed Dad Lifeline building project on way home.

God is good ... all the time.

Sun - disc and run, Mon - bike while Nate did his 2nd run of the day, 4m loop Parkway, Thorin kept pace
Tue - disc and extra run after, only trying to throw LH to keep strain off hip and knee, had a good birdie on 7 from knees under pine tree to elevated basket; then got ambitious and balled on 32W with General's group, guarded shooter Jake, a little rusty but shooting touch came back, guarded okay but recovery slow, sh have kept him fr shooting more, 2 bad losses, 3s and 2s to 26?, then W, L and close last game to 16 L. Didn't feel pain while playing, but typing this cuz knee won't let me sleep. Did rub down and that helps
