Legs were feeling good today & with storms rolling in, I figured it was a good time to get some faster miles in. Plan was mile warmup, 4 faster, mile cooldown. Well, today was one of those days where my watch died 100 yards into the run, so I jogged back to car, started stop watch on phone & took off to do what I know is a measured 5 miles from where I park. Goal was to run comfortably fast, but to be honest, this was probably close to 10k pace, with enough left in tank to pick it up a little for another 1.2 if I was running one. It was nice actually not having the watch & stressing about my pace ... but knowing seconds were ticking away until I got back to the car. Wasn't quite sure what pace I would run, but was hoping around 7's or a little under. With old school calculations, I came up with 7:12. Honestly, I think I would be afraid to toe the line of a 10k right now, or any distance for that matter, just not where I want to be ... but thats ok ... I know I am way ahead of where I was 6 weeks ago & weighing in 10 pounds lighter. Felt good to put down some faster miles, even if I would not have called them that a year ago. Obviously, I ditched the warmup & cooldown miles ... oh well.
