Sub 2:19:00 marathon Personal: I used to run competitively, and maybe I will do so again someday. Right now I am primarily running to try and get in better shape, and to maintain both physical and emotional health, but also for the simple joy that comes when I run.
I am also the proud daddy of five little ones. I love the opportunity that I have to be a daddy, and my challenge is to balance my family responsibilities with work and running. |

| I ran about 30 min after eating so I took it slower than I would have otherwise. I finished in 57:30. For some reason I felt more tired than I would have thought after not running 3 days in a row. It is probably from the somewhat irregular sleep I have gotten the last few nights.

| I felt good while running today but I felt kind of sore later on. It seems strange due to the fact that I have been running more miles than I have run in the last week and a half yet I didn't get sore before. Some of the soreness might be due to finishing my run last night at about 9:40 and then running again only 7.5 hours later. We finished the run in 1:12:36 and we were consistently under 7:00 pace over the last few miles.

| I was kind of in a hurry today since I needed to get to class so I cut my run 1 mile shorter than I had planned and I ran faster over the 9 miles than I was planning. I started out with a 7:08 first mile and then started speeding up. When I was nearing on the 2 mile mark I saw a guy riding a bike in front of me. I have a tendency to get excited when I see someone on a bike, at least when they are not going too fast and when I saw this guy I decided to run him down. I ended up running a 5:52 mile to catch him (the second 1/2 mile I did in 2:46) and then I stayed at 6:00 pace for the next mile and a half until I turned around in order to stay in front of him. He ended up turning around before me so I couldn't see the biker at first. I slowed down for a while, but after 2.5 miles I caught sight of him again, so I sped up in order to run him down again. I averaged just under 6:00 pace over the last 2 miles and I finished in 56:41. I felt strong, but I was really tired later on in the day.

| I felt good today. I wasn't near as tired or stiff as I was yesterday or the day before but my achilles did feel slightly stiff for the first few minutes. I was really consistent throughout the run which was good, and I finished in 1:09:56. My fastest mile for the run was in 6:48 (coming when I decided to run down a guy on a bike) and my slowest mile was a 7:12 (immediately following the 6:48 so that I wouldn't get too far under a 7:00 average). Later on my hip started to feel kind of sore, but otherwise I felt fine. | Add Comment |

| I kept the pace fairly easy but not too slow. I was averaging about 7:15 per mile through 10 miles. I then sped up to about 7:00 pace for the next two miles. At this point I decided to put in a fast mile and I ran 1 mile in 5:40 (1:27, 1:26, 1:24, 1:23). As you can see I slowly sped up each quarter of the mile, however I was not trying to go any faster after the first quarter it just kind of happened. I felt good and I could have gone fast for longer, but I didn't think it would be smart so I slowed down a bit. I finished in 1:45:59 | Add Comment |
