Kind of a miserable, death march of a run for me.  The heat just destroyed me and it got me early.  I wanted to be done at mile 10 and at mile 15 I thought "this is going to be a long 11 mile walk."  Still fun though to run back here.  Wellesley, Boston College and pretty much the last 5 miles are just incredible.  The crowds are unbeleivable.  More than any other marathon besides the first one, I was just so glad to be done.

My plan was to start off and try and hit around 21:30 to 22:00 on each 5k and see how things felt after a couple.  First two 5ks came in just over 22:00, which was slower than I wanted, but not too bad.  The bad thing is that I felt like I was having to really work hard to get these times and the miles were not clicking by very fast.  I was drenched in sweat after a mile. I knew things were going to be rough when I already had the doubts creeping in around mile 8 and 9.  I should have just dialed it back and took my time once I had these thoughts.  I hit the half in just over 1:36:00, which also wasn't too bad, but I just was not in it mentally. Anyways, it turned into a run/walk marathon pretty early for me.  The Newton Hills were a lot tougher this year than I remembered them being from last year.  On the down hills I was actually able to keep a descent pace going, but then I would stop and walk when it flattened out.

Overall, the race itself was a blast.  There is nothing like running that marathon.  The way I ran the race is what is disappointing to me.  I wish I would have just held back and took my time.  I probably should have just started and ran with my brother, who ended up finishing about 1 min ahead of me.  It's easy to say the heat is what destroyed me (and I think it did), but I should have been smarter with things from the beginning of the race.  The trip was very fun though.

Oh my gosh sounds exactly like my experience but I ran so much slower than you. I hate the heat! with a passion.

Nice job Jeff, I was following you online. I'm sure in that heat I would have DNFed.

When I ran Boston in 2004 (hot), I ran 50 minutes slower than my TOU qualifier. So you're only 35 minutes slower- you kicked my butt!

Just kidding. Nice job toughing out the race in definitely tough conditions. You'll forget the pain and remember the crowd and the fun soon enough.

Sounds exactly like my day. I was done at mile 10 too.

Wow! I am really starting to wonder how much actual carnage there was in Boston today. Way to hang in there. I hear it is all about the experience, right?

Congratulations! A very tough day but there is still nothing like Boston!

I happen to know that last year a 3:33 was about 8500th, your time is right in that range and you finished 3284th. Good job on a bad day to marathon.

Nice job in very tough conditions. You finished one of the hardest Boston Marathons ever!

Congrats on a solid time.

Congradulations for finishing...not many people, in this world, can even say they ran the Boston!!!

Good job out there Jeff. Man, it was a tough day. I think everyone wanted to quit a few times. Congrats on sticking it out and running strong to the end.

Thanks all for the kind words. It was a tough race, but overall it was a fun time.

Josse/Andy - I kept waiting for either of you two to come flying by me. Sounds like we all had similar experiences.

Jody - There were times during the race that I was wishing I was at work (just kidding).

Jeff S. - You put together a great race. Awesome job.

Jake - Congrats on an incredible race. You guys amaze me.
