Keep on running, enjoy it for the sake of running, relax and enjoy life...de-stress.  Stay fit as I enter retirement in  2025.

Keep running until this old body says no, running for fun.

 I started running competitively in 2005 and ran my first marathon in 2005. Now retired from competitive racing.

Nice easy early morning 7M run.  Nothing particular to report, will try to get another run in at lunch today.

Oh, work sucks!

Nice 6.7M MP run at lunch today (6:20 avg)...weather was great, pace was great.  Took a Melaleuca Access bar before run and did it help with energy level today due to lack of fuel earlier in the morning (work got in the way of my morning snack!).

Quick training. I'm looking to eventually get my mileage up to mid 70s per week (should hit mid 60s this week). I been doing several 10+ mile runs during the week along with a long run on the weekend. Doing 10-12 miles in a single run day after day seems to drain my energy level and after three days I need a break. You tend to split your runs (morning & afternoon). Is this to get the benefit of high mileage without the stress of mid-long run every day? What are the pros/cons of doing two-a-days?

My primary reason for two-a-days is, yest, to increase my mileage with the time limitations that I have and to get the benefits of easy and MP and tempo runs in during the week. I don't have time in the mornings to do longer runs (and they tend to be slower easy pace as I just can't get fast at 4:30 in the morning). Nor do I have time at lunch to do runs longer than 7M (and this is pushing it, my boss already warned me not to be gone more than an hour, though he does support my exercising at lunch). This then allows me to try and focus on endurance runs on weekends/days off as time with family allows. By split my mileage this way, I have been able to get up to the 70-80 miles per week all summer/fall.

This is a good strategy. Because you get two different types of training per day, which is what the elite runners do. Your going to really excel next year. Have you figured out your target marathon's for next year? I plan on doing Ogden, which I did in 2006.

Still figuring out the plan, but marathon thoughts right now include: PF Changs, SLC, Ogden, Teton Dam, Missoula or Deseret News, Ashton/Poky??, St. George/Chicago/COT, Tri-cities. Other possible HM races (besides local 5k/10K) include: Robie Creek, Hobble Creek, Fit for Life (Boise), Zeitgeist.

How about you, anything besides Ogden in your sites?

I will probably do SLC, Ogden, Teton Dam/Des News, Pocatello, maybe TOU, and ST.George/ or I'm pondering about doing the NY Marathon.

I also thought about training for just two this next year (Spring and Fall) and see what I can really do. Because I know running so many even though you may few your at your best I don't think your at your peak best.

I don't know I'm still gathering my thoughts and looking at my training. I know that training hard this winter is a big key.

What a really good HM you like to run?

I have already started looking into the accommodations for a couple of the big races (Chicago, NYC) and man, the hotel room rates are OUTRAGEOUS! Even St. George, which I got for $70 this year right now is showing $180!
