Marathon: 2:37:04 (St. George 2009) Short-Term Running Goals: Train for as solid a race in Boston 2011 as my schedule will allow. Accept the fact that there isn't room in my life to train for a breakthrough performance and do the best I can under the circumstances.
Long-Term Running Goals: Lose the all-or-nothing mentality and
start using running as an outlet instead of an additional source of
stress. Personal: I'm married with 4 kids (2 boys, 2 girls) and live in Salt Lake City, where I work as a real estate attorney.
Let me have men about me that are fat, Sleek-headed men and such as sleep a-nights. Yond Cassius has a lean and hungry look, He thinks too much; such men are dangerous.

| Since June has been a very mild month until today, I decided to run
in the heat of the day to try to get the body somewhat acclimated to
running in hot weather. Left at 4:45 pm, when the temp was around 92.
HR was higher than normal for this pace, and I was much more fatigued
when I finished than I normally am. Friday and Saturday should be fun.

| Easy morning run. Decided to start cutting mileage back in
preparation for WBR. Not that I've been doing enough to really taper,
but I want the legs to be as fresh as they can. It still won't be
pretty! AHR/MHR: 163/179

| Very relaxed and easy run, just stretching out the legs in preparation for WBR. AHR/MHR: 152/172

| Wasatch Back Relay Leg 11 at 7:15 pm. Climbing
portion beat me up pretty badly, but I felt good about my overall
performance, particularly the downhill section, which I covered in an
average pace of 5:02/mile. Some AT pain, but not bad at all considering
the terrain.

| Wasatch Back Relay Leg 23 at 3:20 am. Pushed
a good, steady pace from start to finish. Picked up guy from Fazoli's
team in Mile 2 only to have him catch right back up. We ran together
for about 1.5 miles until he told me he had to drop. Invigorating run
in perfect weather (about 50 degrees). Felt good about pace, given that
I haven't started doing any speedwork yet. AHR/MHR: 173/179 Wasatch Back Relay Leg 35 at 11:23 am. Splits
were 6:52 (uphill), 5:14, 5:49, 7:48 (steep uphill section), 5:51,
6:01, 5:41. Quads were destroyed after mile 2--I haven't done any
downhill training yet and need to get them back into condition. Started
feeling a pebble in heel of left shoe in mile 2. Got progressively more
painful until I felt it rupture in mile 6. When I finished, I took my
shoe off to find the worst blister I've ever seen. Probably about the
size of 2 silver dollars and the calloused skin was torn back and compressed so badly
that I couldn't save it. I'm worried about how long it will take to
heal. Felt like I left it all on the course, which was good. AHR/MHR: forgot to wear HR monitor, but I'm guessing average was around 180 and max was around 188.
