"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

13 miles. Slow-n-easy. Drove to the LPT and ran there.Mostly sunny, 21 degrees. Wind in my face no matter which direction I was running.

Something was whacked with my blood sugar maybe. I had zero energy, and started feeling light headed/dizzy in the last few miles. It was very frustrating because I've been running great lately, then,on the day I want to run long, this happens. My legs/body felt great, but when I tried  to pick the pace up I would  feel it for a few seconds and then everything just sort of fell apart. Hard to explain. After struggling to finish the run, I felt great, like I hadn't run at all. It's got to be something in my diet.   ?

Hmmm. Your post sounds distressing. The wind is bothersome, but the light headed/dizziness is another matter. If it persists, maybe you need to see a doctor.

Doctor...what's that? It would take a major crisis (compound fracture, dismemberment etc), before I let a doctor take my money.

That doesn't sound good JD. It doesn't sound like low blood sugar, I have really really low blood sugar (borderline hypoglycemia) and what happens to me is that I feel ok on the run, but then about 15-20 mins after I get really lightheaded, nauseaous, break into a cold sweat and have abdominal pain. After I drink some OJ (or sugar water) I feel normal almost immediately. My guess is you ran harder than you thought you were into the wind ... it caught up with you at the end (and was worse because you were feeling a little off right from the start). You have to be more careful when your runs are GREAT than when they aren't -- because we have a tendency to push harder when we feel good for a few days than we would when we are feeling sluggish. Good luck, I hope it gets better by your next run.

Thanks Bonnie. I like your theory better than mine. I've found that when I have a particularly bad run, the next one goes much better. Every run can't be a great run, but it's still a disappointment when things go bad. Still, it's always rewarding to get out and run under almost any circumstance.

I agree -- and, it is though runs that we finish even when it does not feel good, that we can feel best about because we persevere!

I believe you were being chased by invisible Santa elves, hence the wind. (Have you been good this year?) But you persevered and triumphed. They will not trouble you again.
