"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

Standard 10 on the treadmill at home.

Warmed up 3 miles. Then 4 x 90 seconds at 8:00 pace with 90 seconds easy in between. Then a couple of more miles and another 4 x 90 seconds at 8:00 pace with 90 secs. easy. about 2.5 mile cooldown, with one 90 second @ 7:30 pace at mile 9. I tried to focus on relaxing during the intervals and running smoothly, breathing easily.

This is my first "workout", I made it up as I went along. I don't know if I did it correctly or if will help me in my quest to become a faster runner. I hope I can do similiar workouts once or twice a week during the winter while keeping my base up...it sure helped to break up the monotony of the treamill.

"The Be Good Tanyas", Chinatown, kept me company during the run. Thanks gals!

Cute dog.

I wonder if I should try some speedwork on the TM, since going to a track is so difficult for me. That looks like a good workout.

Sno- it actually wasn't too bad. I don't think I would survive 10 treadmill miles without doing something different. I could've done this workout on the road, and I will eventually. I'm just being extra cautious with my body as it adapts to all the new stresses running is putting on it.

JD, Daniels Running Formula is a great book for learning how to do interval work. Its simple without being dummed down. You may already have it.

I think treadmills are great for speed work--especially for the injury prone. Increase the grade and you can also do a great set of "uphill" intervals without having to run back down.

Thanks Phoenix. I've seen Daniels referenced on this blog quite a bit. I may have to go get me a copy.
