"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

11.3 miles / 1:33:16 / 8:15 avg. Commute run from work to home w/extension. Started around 2:00 PM. Felt pretty good today and thought maybe I'd try to get a 1/2 marathon PR until I started falling off, hard, in mile ten. So I cut it short.

Mile splits: 8:04, 8:08, 8:11, 8:30, 8:16, 7:50, 8:05, 8:18, 8:15, 8:34, 8:37, +.3 @ 8:00 pace.

Nice splits. I have to run at least a couple of miles of warmup before I can hit splits like that.

Did you have busy day at work today?

Thanks Carolyn - today was busy, but the real action was Friday and Saturday. Actually, I was a little surprised we had any business today. Davis Co. Utah and all.

Ah yes, I see your point. Are you always open on Sunday, or was this a special for Valentines Day? Did you close early today?

From JD on Sun, Feb 14, 2010 at 18:47:12 from 209.183.51.130

We decided to be open from 10 to 2 today. We had a couple of things pre-ordered, and several people came in while we were there. The main event to day though was some funeral work we were doing.

Oh, and we're closed on Sunday to retail sales, but we end up working 2 or three hours a couple of Sundays a month for our hospital accounts and funerals.

Some very nice mile splits in there, J.D.! Too bad you didn't make your 1/2 PR. Did you go out too fast?

From JD on Sun, Feb 14, 2010 at 19:13:54 from 166.183.13.215

Auntieem - thanks. Yeah, I guess I did go out too fast. One of Sasha's ideas which I like is to run your goal pace to failure then finish the run as best as you can. Maybe I should have gone 13 miles, but I was a little bugged about crashing and just wanted to end it.
