"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

Thanks Lysa. A 20 miler at a 10:23 avg would be awesomer. I need to get some long runs in.

JD-ditto.

That's funny you two. There are dozens of runners on this blog for whom an 8:00 minute mile isn't possible for them to comprehend. Their easy runs are 7:30's or whatever. I have to work hard to keep an 8 minute pace. But that's one of the great things about running, it's individual, and speed is relative to each person. I'm hoping I can get a little faster before I get to much older. Too bad I didn't try to get fast in my twenties. Here's to each of us improving ourselves and getting stronger!

It's true its all relative. It's hard not to feel inadequate when you see what other people can do though. I guess we all need a sign to look at before we walk out the door that says, "you are cool BECAUSE YOU are doing it!" or something like that.

Lysa--I printed up a quote in my office--"You are faster than a couch potato" or something like that.

april27- I love it! And it does put it in perspective doesn't it.

I almost got on the treadmill this morning and then thought of your TAP and told myself "If he can do it, so can I!" (I'm very tempted for wed. 5 degree day)
