"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

6:06:44 AM. Clear, 55F. Hooray for mid-summer cold fronts. Clarke/Glovers lane loop.

Oh what a difference a day makes. Actually felt good on this morning's run. Must be all that spinach I ate yesterday. After warming up for 3 miles, I picked it up for the rest. Splits: 10:02, 9:19, 9:24, 8:42, 8:30, 8:36, 8:28, 8:03, 8:37, 9:17, 8:37.  Still not as fast as I'd like but at least I felt strong to the end.

SO, today I'm not dropping out of TOU, we'll see how I feel tomorrow. (just kidding).

We'll have to start calling you Popeye! Are your fore-arms bulging?

From Lysa on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 14:38:52 from 76.23.52.240

Good Job! Im glad you are feeling stronger, your splits are awesome! And it looks like it turned out to be the right day to quit sniffing glue, good job.

I am imagining you before your marathon, chugging cans of spinach at the start line! I'll be nibbling on my Chia Seed. Nice run; a bit cooler too.

I just read a funny saying in the runners world magazine "and on the seventh day, God ran an easy 3"

From JD on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 16:02:50 from 64.65.159.206

Carolyn - my lack of doing anything but run for the last year has rendered my forearms indistinguishable from a pair of chopsticks.

Lysa - I'll never completely give up glue.

Auntieem - Hey, how do you like the Chia Seeds. After reading Born To Run, I've considered trying them out.

From auntieem on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 17:33:33 from 67.182.145.8

I can't run withoutt 'em. I just take a spoonful of them, put them in my mouth, and swallow a glass of water. They turn into the gel stuff in my stomach instantly and I don't have to swallow any jelly stuff.

From Snoqualmie on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 17:50:40 from 24.18.192.33

I am enjoying Chia seeds too now, thanks to Aunti.

Sorry to hear about your PC. You are such a bright fellow, you really should have a Mac. ;)

From JD on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 18:57:56 from 209.183.51.42

Actually, I'm online at home again. Not as complicated as I thought it would be.

Sno - yes, my buddy has a Mac and swears by it, especially for recording/music applications...I've yet to cross over.

...but thanks for calling me a bright fellow... :-)
