"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

Took the dog out for an easy 4 miles on the fire break road this morning. Mostly cloudy and warm, wind out of the south.

WT 45.2 miles

I don't know what's up with my body lately but I haven't really felt decent for a couple of weeks. This morning was such a struggle. It's frustrating because I'm not doing anything different as far as diet goes, and my miles, while on the low end, should still be enough to maintain whatever meager conditioning I had achieved over the Spring. Well, there is one change, but I really have a hard time accepting that this could be why I'm not "feeling it" on my runs lately. About a month ago I quit taking most of the vitamin supplements that I've been using the last several years. There's just nothing out there that I can find that indicates vitamin supplements  make any difference at all. So I thought I'd try going without vitamins for a while (except Emergen-C, which I still use everyday). So, I stopped my daily multi-vitamin, the extra 500mg of vitamin C, and the B vitamins. So, this could be one of those "well no kidding you feel lethargic Jimmy!" But really? Vitamin supplements? Anyone have an opinion about this?

I was told by a physiology professor that your body does not store "extra" vitamins. Meaning if you are getting what you need in your daily meals then you are paying for expensive urine. I take zero suppliments but I am 36 years young and a mild freak of nature.

Thanks Chad. Yeah, that's kind of where my perspective has gone with the whole vitamin thing - expensive urine. It could be that I just need to make an adjustment in my diet. BTW, I'm slightly envious of your ectomorphic prowess.

Thanks, I had to look up ectomorphic - I like it. Envy wasn't the word in Middle School and High School, but I certainly love it now.

I suppose you could put the vitamins back in and see if that makes a difference, but maybe something else entirely is going on, like hot weather, for example.

I take them off and on, but I have never noticed them affecting my running in any way (or anything for that matter!) Did they have caffeine in them??

I actually believe in supplements, and I know you respect my opinion ; )

I take a probiotic, a multiple, calcium, turmeric, a joint supplement, and of course vitamin D (because I Iive in the gloomy PNW).
