"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

Late lunch run on the LPT. Cloudy, 42F, not much wind. Felt pretty good considering yesterdays long run. After two miles I felt good and thought I'd try 2 or 3 miles at a tempo pace, haha! After the first mile I realized that wasn't going to happen so I just tried to keep the pace faster than usual for the rest of the run.

I tried the same thing and similarly couldn't keep it up. The long weekend runs take a bit of getting over, at least they do for me.

Good speed you have - I'm finally pushing below 9.5 on the flat but 8.16 is a long, long way away!

But it's nice finally to have temps above 40 rather than below 20!

Boy, that sounds so familiar! You've got to respect that recovery period, right?

That was a very good run considering you were recovering from the long run. So how did your experiment come out? Did you feel like resting two days before the long run and running easy the day before made a difference over resting the day before?

Rocinante - long runs, or workouts seem to take a couple of days till they really hit me. DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) is the culprit, I suspect. I hope you're able to take advantage of this glorious weather today!

Snoqualmie - I need to do better at recovery runs, I tend to burn out by the end of the week.

Carolyn - yeah, so I ran 6 miles Thursday, took Friday off, ran 4 miles Sat. then long on Sun. I detected no discernable difference. Actually though Saturday's run felt so great, but it was only four miles, and I was very excited to be back on my favorite trail run...so I think it was that and having the day off before. Not a very controlled experiment. I do think tapering makes a difference obviously, but running a little the day before a hard or long effort didn't seem to hurt at all.
