"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

AM - 9.8 miles / commute crawl into work. Clear, sunny. 34 to 39 degrees. 9:31 avg.

Supposed to be sunny, breezy, and 60 degrees for the commute home.

PM - 9.3 miles / 8:44 avg.  Usually when I run to work, then run back home in the afternoon, the run home goes really well. Not so today. It took 1.64 miles until the PF in my right ankle loosened up. It wasn't until 2.51 miles that ye ole achilles in my lower right leg settled down. My IT band on the outside of my right leg was even threatening to spaz out for a little while. I thought a mutiny was close at hand. Miles 6 and 7 went well (8:02, 8:17), but after that I was just tired out and couldn't wait to finish the run. It could be worse...I could NOT be a runner.

Are you going to run home too?

It's funny that what seems like a slow crawl to us now was once upon a time a pretty good clip.

The plan is to run home. I'm psyched!

I really like running these slower paces now. The recovery is so much quicker, and it leaves me stronger for the next run.

I want 9:30 to be my slow pace!

Allie - haha! Nice.

April - with a few months of consistent running, it will be.

I'm glad you kept the mutiny at bay. And way to look on the bright side.

Some days you just have to say, "the only thing worse than doing it is not doing it" ;)

I am glad you got the geek goggles reference! I sometimes have speed goggles (and if I tell the truth, I have, long ago mind you, had beer goggles too)

From JD on Thu, Apr 08, 2010 at 21:12:14 from 166.183.140.45

Thanks Carolyn - "...always on the sunny side..."

Bonnie - those darn beer goggles blinded me more times than I care to recall! :-)

Holy Crap James. Seriously. For Real. For the Love. What the.

It could be worse.

You run like a FBOP

From JD on Fri, Apr 09, 2010 at 13:56:34 from 70.96.78.157

Lysa, what's an FBOP? Just curious.

From april27 on Fri, Apr 09, 2010 at 17:04:31 from 99.188.251.180

Ya know you are right...last october felt so easy...but then winter comes and my running gets slooooow. I swear I have to start over with speed every spring!
