"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

16 / 2:18:20 / 8:38 avg. Noon. Mostly cloudy, 36 degrees. Cold wind. Bluff trail / roads around West Davis County. Started out too fast with the first three miles at 8:18, 8:19, 8:10 then ran around MP (8:30) for most of the rest of the run with some 8:50's and a 9:00 for the 14th mile. The last mile was 8:33. Overall felt okay. Legs are a little weak. Probably from running mostly flat parkway trails most of the Winter. I should also add that I didn't take in any water or food during this run.

What an awesome week of running! And you even ran on the TM, lovely!!!

I ran on the trails through West Jordan and Murray today and I decided it does get kind of boring. It was all pretty flat, which is nice, but i need some variety!

Have a restful weekend, you have worked hard this week.

OH, and I decided TOO late that I do want to run the Ogden half, dang it!!! My husband is trying to see if his work has any spots this year, I know they did last year. Anyway, I hope to be there cheering you marathoners in.

You had very nice mileage this week.

I've been wondering about the running long distances without food or water. Does it make you stronger or is it better to have some fuel? I like to have some water on my longer runs, but I typically go without food. I did 12 today without food or water.

I never drink water in the winter, and I am still alive (although I do get a post run headache some of the time!) And I NEVER EVER have food, it makes me barf! My take is that it makes us tough. If we can do it, all the more power to us, right?

Thanks Kelli. I hope you can get into Ogden, it would be cool to meet you. Awesome mileage this month!

Carolyn - I just don't like carrying a bottle when I run. In the Winter it's doable to go without. Definitely not in the Summer, where I carry/drink all the water I can. I don't know whether or not it makes you stronger. If I had found a convenient place to get water today, I would've stopped for some. I am pretty conscientious about staying well hydrated everyday though, I think that helps.

You are superman. Good job!!! I would have had to have water and gu, but Im much more of a juvie than all of you.

I think that is why I can go without water on a run (in the winter), I drink a ton every day. I am SURE it makes stronger, sure of it.
