Unplanned day off.

Got home a bit after 9:00 and could have jumped on the treadmill, but didn't. Went to a lecture on prisoners and voting rights. Intriguing stuff, but I think the level of discussion was a bit too much for college students. Taught my two classes and Megan and I went to a play called Mothers and Sons. To think most of my days used to get busy like this. Free time is nice but an over abundance can drive you crazy (but I guess the alternative does too).

Got into Broad Street, which most people do. I want to run it hard but it's two weeks before a potential marathon, and one week after my key half. If I change my half to the end of march I have fewer weeks to get fit and my key 5k is a week later. Trying to be judicious with my race fee money this spring.

Broad Street seems like it would be an awesome opportunity to run fast. Competitive, and what a course!

I'm partial to that 10 mile distance. It's very humane :-) I wish I could do Cherry Blossom again this year.

I am doing some restructuring of my racing schedule so that it isn't the weekend after a key half.

It's a light downhill, point-to-point. Megan and I can park at La Salle and it is just about 1/2 mile to the start.

10 miles is about as close to ideal a LT test as I can get (given that there are no 10.25-10.5 mile races).

Oh I'm sure there are plenty of Garmin-believers who think it's a 10.25 mile race :-)

Based on how you knocked out those workouts last week, late March could actually be a good time-frame for a half marathon. You'd be building fitness all the way up to it. A shorter buildup, but less chance of cooking yourself in the process.

The plan is the Philly Love Run 3/29 (it's basically the RnR course) or the Unite Half 4/12. Your comment makes me realize I ran 1:17 in late March after being injured in November last year. My fitness is better than at this point last year and I didn't have to lose 10-13 lbs to get to racing weight (currently about 2-4).

That would also keep me marathon specific in the later weeks if I do Sugarloaf.

Those seem like good options.

Love run, Unity Run... doesn't Philly lead the country in murder?! (or at least near the top of the list)

The other half is in New Jersey, but year they love the City of Brotherly love stuff.

I think the murder rate is much higher in other cities, but maybe we are up there for total number of murders (it's astonishing really), which is now under 300 for the last two years! Camden (just across the river) is particularly dangerous. La Salle is in a pretty sketchy neighborhood. I wouldn't want to walk through there at night. Certainly not the worst area in Philly.

Megan just informed me that one of Nicki Minaj's roadies was stabbed two miles down the road just today or yesterday.

If you are ever in the area, we'll stick to Forbidden Drive and Chestnut Hill.

I say we just meet up in Cape Elizabeth this summer :-)
