REST DAY. Mandatory 7 days off. During the race I vowed never to run again, but I'll feel like running tomorrow. A little sore today, but not as bad as my first, but worse than the last 2, after which I was a little stiff but stairs were fine and I wasn't sore.

It's really for the best. I've run 2 days after, 4 days after, and 7 days after. After 7 days off after Sugarloaf I was able to roll for quite a while on the fitness I built until I screwed it up. Takes a few weeks to get back into it, but running after a day or two doesn't get you back on track any faster.

Good to know. We all like running, but who doesn't like a little time off. Kinda reboots you mentally. What do you think about a planned month off? Not so much after a race but more so a winter month to let your body rebuild. I've read about it but never considered it yet.

A month off would be a long time. If you want to, take it, but you will have to be patient building back up. Your muscles will weaken, even your feet will go soft! You'll gain a good bit of weight even if you are somewhat mindful. I think 2 weeks would be the most I (personally) would take off, but, again, if you need it mentally and it recharges you and doesn't leave you frustrated when you start back.

I think 10 days to 2 weeks is about the threshold for really strong recovery and still rolling some fitness over (it will take a little bit to feel strong again though). I don't have anything to point you to to support this but running too soon can bite you in the glutes

I didn't even think of the re-adapting you'd have to do after that time off. I'm still thinking a week is about where I'm going to limit myself. I hate running 3 miles and having it feel like a LR. Does kind of seem like a little longer break once in a while would be beneficial.
