Day off.

49 days on. It was time. 21 days to Boston seemed like a good time even though I really didn't want to take the day off (expected to be in the 60s too). 3 weeks will allow an additional rest day likely in the last 8-9 days of the buildup, but not too much of a stretch that I go too long.

Late: 20 minutes of rolling and stretching

Weight: 169.80

Days off are like threshold workouts. An easy 8 miles always sounds better, but you just have to suck it up and do what is going to make you faster.

I could probably take more days off. Many blog examples of folks who run extremely well off 6 days. I just feel like if I can do it, and want to, I should. I'm not getting any younger!

Day off = happy body!

I've always really liked the 10-day cycle with a day off/super easy. Never been able to really test it out, but it seems like it would work well in theory.

That was Paula Radcliffe's micro-cycle... a day off every 10-11 days. For mortals where weekends actually matter in terms of taking advantage of them, a 14 day cycle with day #15 off is probably a good compromise.

If I could get past skewing my miles I would do the 10-14-day cycle I think. As for weekend, currently, and, well, pretty much during the week too, I have ample time (too much in fact). It won't always be that way, so I will have to adapt.

I checked to see how that would work with what I have done recently. I did conclude that it was DEFINITELY time for a day off. Month of March: Two 24 milers, a half marathon and 10k PR, 3 aerobic builders, and two of pretty much the hardest workouts I do.

Yeah, you have been relentlessly consistent with the big efforts. The work is pretty much all done now. You just need to stay healthy for 3 weeks and get to the line with fresh legs.

Nothing atypical from here to race day. Race/workout Saturday, 10-day out workout. Easy aerobic runs and strides. Taper similar to what I did for Sugarloaf (which I think was similar to what I did the fall before).
