Ran out to the Cottonwood Office Park again.  Beautiful day...even though it was overcast, snowy and air quality soupy...good to be running and alive!  My "haul buns" mile was a disappointing 7:49 on mile 6...but on the bright side my hip is feeling as good as it has in 2 years.

I enjoyed being outside as well. Good to hear about the hip.

Hey G! I will be on da island from the 4th to the 18th of January, when are you going? Where are you staying? Let me know if you need any tips.

Yes, I did run Kalalau last November, I think you can look up my post from Nov, 2010 for the report and pics.

I would totally say go for it! It's one of the best adventure runs I've ever done. Very tough 22 miles, but I would go for the whole thing. Just be prepared for very rocky, rough trail, lots of up and down and it can be pretty streamy hot. Go early and you will catch almost all of it in the shade. Take plenty of water each way, you can fill up at the waterfall on the beach at the end of the trail for the return trip, but I would take enough to get the full 11 miles each way. There are streams, but I didn't trust the water, and didn't want to filter. I think it took me around 6 hours, including about 15 minutes at the waterfall. I ran most of it both ways. Check out Kauai explorer, (google it) go to the trail section, there is a pretty long discussion on Kalalau in the comments section.

The only other run I did was the Powerline Trail, also on Kauai explorer I think. Not reccomended. Muddy, swampy, overgrown, death march. Pretty cool though as you can start on the East side and end up going through the middle of the island to the North shore. I also posted about that in Nov 2010.

Sleeping Giant is a fun hike if you haven't done it before, pretty easy access. 3-4 miles RT and alot of climbing. Let me know if you need more info on that one, there are a couple of trails, but the best one starts out of a neighborhood on the Northeast side.
