First marathon training day, but in pretty good shape. VERY tired.  Still feeling sore in the neck from the backpacking trip a week ago.  Did not intend to run this far, but had to back track for the dropped dog leash.

Going to bed early.

Feel great after the run.  This running every day is really going to be a positive change in my training.  I am recording my calories today.

Lost a pound.  Felt very good on the run - like I could have gone longer and faster.  Think that the conditioning effect from the monster backpacking trip is kicking in.  Really getting off to a great training start.

Lost another pound and a half.  I think that it's mostly water weight (for a very obvious reason).  Did not sleep well last night.  Body is going through some big changes, and there is more to come.

Ran 8.5 miles.  Walked on the hills and quite a bit of the last two miles.

Sutter loves the canals.  What a great dog.

 So far, so good.

The short,  recovery runs - like today - feel great.  Nice, easy pace.  The heart rate is low. This is a big difference from last year and why I know that running every day is going to make a difference.

 A paradigm shift.

Two days, three days of total rest doesn't work in the running world.  Remember that what I know about conditioning is thirty-two years old.

Times have changed.

Still having trouble getting to sleep.  I have put my body into a bit of a shock.  That's okay.

Just be patient and don't overdo it.

P.S.  Sutter is the best dog on the planet.  I love him and he loves to run.  Just like Saint Peter did.

Did not sleep well at all last night.  Ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich at 11 p.m.

A little dissappointing to GAIN a half of pound, after all that work.  Maybe I should order a large pan-crust salami pizza and call it good.

This morning's run was a short one through the picturesque historical goldrush town that I am fortunate enough to live in.  If I am going to run EVERY day, as promised to myself, then these little 20 minute runs before work will become a weekly occurance.

I ran further this week than any other week last year.

A good start to marathon training.

Thank you very much.
