5 on JRP.  Mostly wonderful run in mostly miserable conditions, rain, slush, hail, and other forms of precip.

At work we regularly have people bring us their "geologic" treasures for identification.  We see a lot of fools gold, meteorwrongs, colored glass, rocks that vaguely look like fossils but aren't, and so on.  We have started calling ourselves the Dream Crushers.  In the 13+ years I've worked here I've seen oddities, curiosities, and almosts but not one thing that was really valuable.  Until today!  Someone brought in a rock that they found in stuff from their father's estate.  It was loaded with native gold.  Probably over $12,000 worth of gold as a metal and the piece was perhaps worth two or three times that as a specimen.  The Dream Crushers were defeated today.... finally!

wow -that's pretty dang cool, Fly. Do you have a picture of the treasure? My son loves that kind of stuff. The next time I get out that way can I bring him by?

I thought about taking a picture but then thought why?

Please bring your son by. I'd be happy to crush his dreams too. ;)

Hey, that's pretty cool. Sounds like a great job, except for crushing the dreams. Do you have a lot of stuff on display where yoiu work? That would be pretty cool to see. My son would love that, too.

And so would I, for that matter.

What defines whether or not something is a treasure??? I distinctly recall you telling me a story about one man's treasured turd in a box! REMEMBER??? ;)

(Seriously though ... very cool!)

From fly on the Wall on Tue, Nov 09, 2010 at 22:10:38 from 166.70.192.189

The turd was a treasure but tha guy worked with me, as oposed to a random person bringing something in and not really knowing what it is, or thinking they know what it is and being completely wrong (and sometimes completely out to lunch).
