9 miles w/ 6 x 600m intervals @5k pace w/ 90 sec recovery.  84°-88°.

~1.2 mile warm up.

0.37  5:49,  1:58 rec

0.36  6:17,  1:50 rec

0.36  6:23

~5 more very sluggish miles.

I ran with (far behind) the fast guy on the intervals.  I succumbed to chasing the rabbit and ran way too fast on the first 3.  Then I was really hurting on the final 3.  My 5k pr pace is 6:24.   Ugh, trying to run fast is really, really hard.  Now I need to figure out how to get my work done without falling asleep.

Those were some fast 600s in the beginning, but the only way to get faster is to train faster. Good job.

Nice work. I think your 5k pace is faster than 6:24. Probably closer to 6:00.

Thanks Rhett, Smooth, and Andy!

Now that I've recovered a bit, I think I'll make it a goal to run the next set of 600s (in 2 weeks) more consistently, starting and ending under 6:00 and with 90 sec recoveries. If it is cooler, that will help.

When is the last time you raced a 5K?

From fly on the Wall on Thu, Aug 12, 2010 at 10:35:30 from 204.113.19.47

Tim, I raced a 19:54 flat 5k in May. It was a PR and the only time I've gone under 20:00 in a 5k race. I did a 19:07 5k as part of 12 marathon pace miles on Saturday, BUT it was downhill!
