At the start my friend Bob told me the funniest and sadist running related story I've ever heard. He always waits for one of the last buses to the start.  Last year he got on one of the touring buses with a bathroom.  On the way up a runner started yelling from in this bathroom.  He was locked in!  When they reached the start the driver and multiple volunteers tried in vein to get the poor guy out.  The bus blocked the start and when 7:00 came the bus had to move out of the way and thus headed down canyon with the poor runner still locked in the crapper!

Perfect racing conditions!  I felt as though I ran well and consistent.  Age is slowing me but I ran a course PR.  I could have run faster.  I could have run slower.  My time is not very satisfying.  My time is not disappointing.  Using Sasha's race time predictor, I ran slower than St. George in the fall.  I'm running the Slam so I should not have run all out.  I did not hold back very much, probably not enough.  For last year's Slam, my time would have put me in first for my age group and third overall.  For this year's Slam I am no where near placing for either.  At least I was not locked in the bus bathroom.  I am definitely feeling ambivalent about my ambivalence, I think.

This was a post race exit PR!  I finished about 10:15 and was in the car on my way to go camping at Capitol Reef by 10:35.

My Garmin read 26.37 miles but I forgot to stop it at the finish line!  So I think it would have been pretty close to 26.2? or 26.3?, meaning the course was probably right on.

Here are my splits from this year and previous years:

Nice time. A course PR bodes well for the rest of your racing year.

Hey congratz on the course PR!!! It was SO GREAT to see you at the firewood and SUPER COOL to see you cruising to the finish! I LOVE your ambivalence...well said about the day!!!

Except for the first year I ran Ogden in 2007, it has never been kind to me; but I keep coming back because of friends like you who run it and the journey we shared. Enjoy the rest of the Slam!

Oh yah HUGE CONGRATZ on the race-exit-PR! You and Gary (my bro-in-law) both know how to "fly" in and out of there! :)

Congrats on the course pr. Interesting to see how consistent your splits are from year to year.

I should have been more ambivalent...I cared too much and now I am going to completely bonk at Utah Valley. I wish nothing more at this moment than to NOT be doing the slam.

Great job on the race, I was happy to see you at the start and during the race. ;o) I kept waiting for you to catch up to me, I needed some company!

*We stopped at the same porta potty. Slowest mile for both of us. Stupid porta potties.

Hope you had fun camping.

Great job Fly. I love the comparison splits to previous years. You sure had a lot of "pee stops" that first year! Here's my other take away from your chart: looks like your peeing longer. I guess that's the age thing. :)

From Kelli on Tue, May 22, 2012 at 15:51:39 from 71.219.97.214

Rhett, you just made my day. Too funny.

I was most impressed that he kept track of his pee stops every year.

nice race Fly - course PR !!

They have medications that can help with that peeing longer thing. I loved your statement about ambivalence. One of my kids was talking about a difficult decision and said, "I don't know, I'm ambidextrous." Good luck sorting it out. The love of the run has it's ebbs and flows. It's very challenging to sustain a high level of effort and commitment.

Great job, Fly! Great report...did the guy stuck on the bus get a DNS? Ah the story he could tell!
