Our meet at Wasatch got cancelled due to major snow. So we decided to have a home meet in the blizzard! It was snowing so hard. I had been feeling awful all day, but I still toed the line. We bunched the 800 and 3200 runners together, so I started with Mason on the waterfall. The entire track was full of snow and by the 100 mark my spikes were soaked. Kedric was going quick to get the lead but I got it. Hit the 200 at 35. Too quick haha. I intentionally slowed the pace a bit to hit a 77 first lap. I hit the 800 at 2:40. I was aiming for 10:45 btw. At this point I started burping which in turn made me want to puke, so it triggered my gag reflex pretty bad. From this point on Mason was right on my tail. I kept thinking "He can pass me at the end of this lap" but I didn't let him. Mile at 5:31. My gag reflex is getting triggered every thirty seconds now, and I'm praying I don't blow chunks mid race. I hit the 2000 and I started picking it up. At 600 left Mason's footsteps were more quiet but I remembered that Mason tends to run a 63 second last lap and has a 1:56 PR so I sped up even more. Entire last lap I'm about to hurl and gagging a ton. Last 200 I gave it all I had without pushing to puke, so still just a bit left in the tank. I finish and I'm immediately on the ground. Coaches are congratulating me, but they stop as I puke everywhere. It was bad. but I felt way good after. Cooldown to hit 7. Conditions plain sucked today, but I'm satisfied. A win is always nice, albeit basically a red and white meet.

Congrats on your win! Looks like a great race through awful conditions.

I hear the conditions for UVU are gonna be perfect. I just need to get 2:10 tomorrow at the second day of the meet and I'll be set.

Also what's up with the pinky thing?

solid

And why do your coaches not care about you????

From Eugene on Tue, Mar 29, 2016 at 20:25:02 from 173.240.40.237

We have Mason, who ran a 1:56 last year, and Aaron, who ran a 10:16 last year. They're basically the two distance runners coaches really pay attention to. I told my distance coach about the Alabama walk on standards, and he basically said "good luck with that" so I train by myself mostly.

Did you try the pinkie thing?

From Eugene on Tue, Mar 29, 2016 at 20:29:44 from 173.240.40.237

I focused on it on my 5th lap, that's when I started pulling away. The last 400 I just was thinking of running quick into the wind and snow though, not much else.

From Zack Ericksen on Tue, Mar 29, 2016 at 20:30:27 from 74.81.234.23

And the reason I said it was to distract you cuz part of the problem seems to be you are mentally beat and get distracted by the negatives. The pinkie was just a random thing to focus on. It could have been anything.

From Zack Ericksen on Tue, Mar 29, 2016 at 20:33:48 from 74.81.234.23

And good call, last 400 definitely focus on the kick.

From Eugene on Tue, Mar 29, 2016 at 21:09:03 from 173.240.40.237

The pinky thing was random, I sort of suspected it would be a placebo thing. I thing leading the race helped me a lot. Either way thanks!

Dude for being sick and for sub-par weather that's a great time! Excited to meet you on Saturday

Dude what u racing at UVU?

From Eugene on Tue, Mar 29, 2016 at 22:04:00 from 173.240.40.237

Same spencer, same goes to josh and Zack.

Ryan, 3200 and 800. Hopefully. Apparently you need a 2:10, 5:10, or 10:45 to race the 800-3200 at UVU. I made the first two marks last year, but not the last one. I ran 10:55 for 2 miles in January, so hopefully coaches can put me in for that.
