Short-Term Running Goals:

-Qualify for the 2024 Olympic marathon trials

Long-Term Running Goals:

-Run a few fast marathons. Grandma's, St. George, and Boston are on my target list. An Olympic Trials qualifier would be amazing.

-Break stroller records?

-Stay fit for a very long time. I believe what goes into making a competitive runner at age 60 is much different than age 20, just like what goes into making a good marathoner differs from a good sprinter. I hope that by taking care of my body, I can be very fast for my age as I get older.

Personal:

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I served a mission in Rome, Italy from 2015 to 2017. I eat a whole food, plant-based diet, which I believe helps my running. I like chocolate shakes on sunday nights and I will always call the Pacific northwest home.

Woke up at 5:50 for a cold run (23 degrees) on east river before an early meeting. For a lot of reasons I consider myself to be a morning person, but running that early puts a damper on my enthusiasm to be up then. I ran really slow. I feel like I get more tired when I start out in the dark and then it gets light. Also, you worry about tripping and feel like the people outside are dangerous (simply because it's dark, even though those out at 6:30 are really probably the most reliable ones).

About 6:50 pace. This time my run was in the late afternoon on one of my winter routes, where you go as if to do river flats but stay on river road and cross franklin ave bridge. Sometimes runs like that can be cold and feel not the best when you are used to going in the morning. This one went pretty well. I decided last night I may have to run in the afternoon due to the snow; I wasn't very keen on being relegated to the treadmill in October. My goal this winter is to spend <20 days on the treadmill, assuming I am healthy enough to be running outside.

7:07 pace, boom island. Ran some of it with Aaron and also saw the team.

I think I've caught 6-7 leaves this year.

7:11 pace, farmers fields. I'm grateful for construction workers because they are always really chill about you running through their workspace lol. There was a guy walking towards me I thought to apprehend me but he just smiled and waved. Unfortunately they put a a fence up at the end of my soft surface path. Don't ask me why I'm still running slow. Maybe the cold?

7:03 pace, west river road roundabout. Enjoyed running a bit on the part of the Winchell trail I normally skip.

6:10 pace on a cool but not frigid morning on east river flats to east river road. 6:01s on the way back. I haven't been that far on east river in a long time. Today I made it past St. Thomas. Bottom of foot (plantar fascia?) was still hurting a bit. Felt tired a lot starting a few miles in, less so at the end actually. Was surprised to see the football game doesn't start till 2:30. Why the bands are practicing and people are tailgaiting in that weather at 8 am is a mystery to me.
