Short-Term Running Goals:

-Qualify for the 2024 Olympic marathon trials

Long-Term Running Goals:

-Run a few fast marathons. Grandma's, St. George, and Boston are on my target list. An Olympic Trials qualifier would be amazing.

-Break stroller records?

-Stay fit for a very long time. I believe what goes into making a competitive runner at age 60 is much different than age 20, just like what goes into making a good marathoner differs from a good sprinter. I hope that by taking care of my body, I can be very fast for my age as I get older.

Personal:

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I served a mission in Rome, Italy from 2015 to 2017. I eat a whole food, plant-based diet, which I believe helps my running. I like chocolate shakes on sunday nights and I will always call the Pacific northwest home.

Right now I don't know if I am coughing because of my sickness or the fieldhouse haha. Anyway we did 1000 repeats on the indoor track with 90 seconds rest. Isaac told me if I felt good I could do 10. Interestingly, this is the second week in a row that due to lack of time to think about and calculate paces, I significantly underestimated how fast I should go based on current fitness and where I want to go. I was planning on 3:05s based on what he told us but then he said he wanted me to do 3 flats, and I'm glad he did. I wasn't preparing myself mentally for 10 so I did 8. Idk what my times would have been had I done 10. (2:58, 3:00, 2:58, 2:59, 2:59, 3:00, 3:00, 2:56)

It started dumping snow right before I left on my run. I really need a baseball cap to keep rain and snow out of my face for runs like these. But today I decided to run indoors. Thankfully there was a treadmill available, and a fan, which made it a little better. I am grateful for treadmills on days like today!

I have a lot to be grateful for. As soon as I got the text what our workout was, I looked at the weather and realized I needed to go run right after my review at noon before the weather got too yucky (I love rain, just not during workouts). Sure enough, it wasn't that bad as I ran but right afterward it really started pouring. I went to Orem again. Again, I faced some wind. It was never like "wow what I am even doing right now" but it wasn't easy either, especially on the way back. 8 mile progressive tempo. I ran (5:26, 5:18, 5:13, 5:17, 5:18, 5:16, 5:16, 5:09). I did have to stop to uh, get something at two miles to go, but that didn't take too long. The good thing is at least I finished strong. 5:16 overall. Not quite as fast as I had hoped but under the conditions, we'll take it and have faith that I'll get faster moving forward.

What a beautiful day! I am so grateful that I can run, especially on a day like today. I felt a weird soreness in my superior tibia this morning and a little tightness in my right achilles, which reminded me to be grateful that regardless of how my workouts go, at least I am training. 5 miles in the morning nice and slow, 10 miles in the afternoon, also nice and slow. No strides.

Another 85 mile week in the books. I wore my hat and tights because it was supposed to start snowing an hour in to my run. Intstead, it was a gorgeous mostly sunny morning. My achilles felt tight for the first 5 or 8 miles but then it felt better. By the end I still felt sore but I felt good. 6:10 average. Time to recover from this tough week (13 miles of workout!) and get ready for a lower mileage next week.
