Short-Term Running Goals:

-Qualify for the 2024 Olympic marathon trials

Long-Term Running Goals:

-Run a few fast marathons. Grandma's, St. George, and Boston are on my target list. An Olympic Trials qualifier would be amazing.

-Break stroller records?

-Stay fit for a very long time. I believe what goes into making a competitive runner at age 60 is much different than age 20, just like what goes into making a good marathoner differs from a good sprinter. I hope that by taking care of my body, I can be very fast for my age as I get older.

Personal:

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I served a mission in Rome, Italy from 2015 to 2017. I eat a whole food, plant-based diet, which I believe helps my running. I like chocolate shakes on sunday nights and I will always call the Pacific northwest home.

And that's a wrap to the season. Ran a 1:55.6 in the 800 at our time trial. Went through halfway in 55. I was bummed to see that only converted to a 1:55.1 at sea level. With competition and a better track maybe I have a 1:53 in me but probably no faster than that. Now it's time for XC TRAINING!!!!!! I'm kind of excited because even though your improvement is still out of your hands, I feel like there is more you can do to influence how good you will be in distance running than in mile/800 stuff. I don't think I will be breaking 1:47 anytime soon, but running a 13:45 5K next year? I can see that.

Congratulations on a GREAT season. I have really enjoyed following your progress this year. You are a SUPER runner.

Your hard work and dedication is really paying off.

My formula for the marathon cap is 800 PR + 12 seconds, then covert to hours and minutes - e.g 1:55 + 0:12 = 2:07. So let's assume you are actually more of a 5,000 guy, so we will add another 5 minutes to your 2:07 marathon cap - that is still 2:12. The discouraging thing is that the cap imposed by a slow 800 PR is something I do not know how to overcome - except do something to improve the 800 PR. However, once you have pushed that cap to some respectable range, there is hope - you can run mileage, eat better diet, get better sleep, do specific tempo workouts, and just be patient - and your marathon PR will start to move in the right direction with the possibility of getting close to the theoretical cap.

Interesting @SashaPachev. Of course, the best thing I can do for my marathon time is train for a marathon of course. But any of the top guys in the world in the 5K can easily do a sub 50 400 whenever.
