1 hour on the spinning bike while catching up on all the recorded tv that I missed while in St. George.  It felt good to get some blood pumping through my legs.  Feeling better every day.  I can almost go down the stairs without taking them one at a time.  At least I don't have to go down backwards.

I've spent lots of mental energy trying to figure out what I want to do next.  I definitely want to do a sea level marathon next fall, but what inbetween?  The only for sure race on the schedule is the prestigious Cottonwood Heights Turkey Trot.  I'm playing with the idea of going to the US Half Marathon Championships in January,  (see, I think I'm all awesome and stuff, now!)  or possibly the Phoenix Half Marathon on March 1.  I kind of want to take advantage of my fitness to pop some decent times out.   Hmmm.  So many decisions.

I actually may do both of those races. USA Half Champs for sure I am likely going to. It's tough to turn down those incentives they give to go out there.

Plus it's fun to just get absolutely smoked every now and then to keep me humble.

I did PHX marathon last year and it was a really good event, very well organized.

Both races will be great and I recommend doing both as long as you can handle the cold training months! Jake and I will probably be at both.

+1 on everything said above. Both are excellent options. Houston will obviously be super-competitive, and Phoenix is probably one of the fastest trials-eligible 1/2 courses in the country.

I'm planning on being at both... even though I know I won't be recovered from CIM in time for Houston, its still a free trip :-)

Already at least 6-7 people from Utah are going down for the Phoenix race...it would be awesome to have a big group there to hang out and celebrate afterwards :)

Jake, what is the max elevation drop for a trials-eligible half?

From Jake K on Tue, Oct 08, 2013 at 10:13:49 from 67.177.11.154

Same rules as marathon (3.25m/km). So... 224 feet.

Do both. I ran the Pheonix half this year and it was completely flat. But most races seem flat outside of Utah :)

If you have to choose one, I think you could stay more focused by training for the US Half, it is sooner. Then....just do the Pheonix half for fun and win!

one more vote for everything said above -- those both sounds like great options. i think i will be going to PHX as well.

also, i love the CH turkey trot! tough course. i used to do it every year until i started voyaging to seattle for bangers & mash thanksgiving.

The Sky's the limit, especially with that amazing marathon debut! I wonder if everyone at SGM knows that was your FIRST marathon? Wowzers. You're dangerous.

Definitely agree with all above feedback. You are in great shape so you should go for it.

I am planning to run Phoenix half as well and there is likely a van of us driving down if your interested in a crazy road trip! :)
