Running Accomplishments:

I started running in September 2007 - 4 months after baby #8 was born.  Since then I have finished two 5Ks, three 10Ks, three half-marathons, and I completed my first Marathon with at time of 4:48- the Phoenix Rock-N-Roll - Jan 2009!  Marathon #2 showed GREAT improvement - the Saint George Marathon 2009 with a time of 4:10 - YEAH!!!!

Short-Term Running Goals:

I want to run more marathons, finish injury-free, go dancing afterwards, and mostly have a LOT of FUN!!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running!!!  Someday I want to be able to consider myself as something other than a beginner.  :D

Personal:

I am happily married, have 8 children, and am madly in love with my awesome husband!!!  Besides running, I love performing on stage, and have recently become re-involved in the theater, after a LONG break to have children.  Last summer I did my first show as a PAID professional actress!  I teach piano and voice lessons, and homeschool my kids.  Life is grand!

I did an upper body workout with my friend Grace this morning.  We also walked three miles.  The calve felt tight, but not sore.

I went in to the chiropractor today.  He kinesiotaped my calve.  It looks very cool!  :-)  Then I went with Ben to meet the Saint George Tri Club at the lake.  The water was so choppy, I didn't dare try to swim without a wetsuit, considering the experience I had last time I tried an open-water swim.  So I watched and then joined in for the bike ride.  I tried to take it pretty easy, just to see how my leg felt.  It was great!  No pain at all.  Tomorrow I'm going to try running again.  :-D

I ran five miles today!!!  It felt so good to be running, I almost cried.  I took it easy, doing 5 minute runs and 1 minute walks.  By mile three, I had some tightness in my calve, but still no pain.  I'll take tomorrow off, then try again.  Yay!

Ben and I took the kiddos to the lake this evening and I tried an open-water swim again.  This time I had Joshua lead me along with a kayak, so I wouldn't get so lost.  It made a HUGE difference!  I'm going to have to figure this swim thing out if I ever want to do a "real" triathlon.  Anyway, I swam to the rock and back, which I figure is a little less than a half mile.  When I was finished, I was totally disoriented - worst vertigo I've had in a long time.  But I made it without drowning, so I feel pretty good about it.  :D

Ben and I got up early this morning for a long ride.  It started off with a bang, so to speak, when three dogs decided to charge Ben head-on on his bike, causing him to stop abruptly and me to crash into his back wheel.  I bounced off of him, then bounced off the curb, then teeter-tottered until I went down on the sidewalk and slid a few feet.  I was lucky, only losing the top layer of skin on my right shin.  The poor old lady who happened to be with the dogs got a severe tongue-lashing from Ben, afterwhich she denied having any ownership of the dogs.  The poor thing probably went home and had a heart-attack.  Anyway, Ben and I rode 41.5 miles - my longest ride...and I can tell from the soreness in my shoulders and neck that I am going to have to get accustomed to the longer distances little by little.  Crashing at the beginning of the ride probably didn't help with the stiff neck.  I finished off the morning with one of my infamous cluster-headaches, but it wore off a few hours later, in time for all-you-can-eat sushi at Sushimasa in Mesquite!  Yay!
