3.1 miles - 20:06
All around an awesome day! It was my wife's Birthday and she cheered on our whole family! Happy Birthday Amy..... you're the best!
The first to run was my youngest Paige.... she was entered into the Tot-trot for 5yr olds and ran a smart race. She went out a little tentatively at the start, but then started to reel in the competition one by one. Great race Paige!
Next up was my oldest Maggie.... since she is 7yrs old, the only option was the 2k, and she ran it like a champ! Maggie went out hard, and I tried to let her know that this was a lot longer than the tot-trot she ran last year, but she wasn't having it. About a half mile in she slowed a bit and developed a cramp, but it didn't stop her from surging to the finish. Awesome racing Maggie!
Then there was me, and for some reason I was really nervous? I ran the race last year and finished in 21:56. This year I picked up our race #'s the day before and drove the course..... even though I ran the race in 2010. I wasn't really sure where my fitness level was at the moment and I put a good amount of pressure on myself to run a PR. Anyways, after running with my girls in their races, I calmed down a ton and just decided to see what I could do. The first mile clicked off in the mid 6's and I was feeling smooth and in a groove. I was passing a couple of people and holding a steady pace through the 2nd mile. At the start of the second mile, a good size hill begins..... about a 1/2 mile long with a couple of rollers in it. I managed to shave a couple of seconds off my pace on the uphill and finished strong on the track. I'm really excited about this result and can't wait for my next race!
