Der Hammer is a nick name I picked up from my German friends while living in Germany. My real name is David. 

 I have been running seriously since March 2007.  I started with a local running group called "Gilbert's Gazelles".  Before that I had run a couple 5k's (26:00's) and never run more than 3 miles at one time.  I have lost about 40 pounds in a little over 2 years. 

I am 45 years old, married and have 2 children, ages 5, girl, and 10, boy.  I try to keep my running from interfering with my family as much as possible, e.g. getting up at 5 am.  However, Saturdays are long run days and I don't come home until around 9 am or so.  I owe my family a debt of gratitude for allowing me to pursue this passion.

Warm and muggy morning - parked at the Y and ran a mile to Austin high.  The coach gave his Boston speech and then we headed over to Zilker park for a 3k@MGP, but I just made it 4k.  Seemed a lot harder than it should have been.  Honestly, my legs feel better with more miles.  Not sure all this resting is good.  The temps didn't help either.  

It was hard going easy on the way back - probably hitting close to MGP - the muscle memory is there.

I know what you mean with the resting making it feel harder. Seems like your legs just get beat into a forced rhythm with the higher mileage. Just have to sit back and trust that you've done everything right.. Probably the hardest part of all!

Not that I know much about running but I did read an article from McMillan about "Peaking and not Tapering". In essance it didn't have you cut the milage nearly as much as most marathon training programs tell you to do. I've just felt like I've lost my edge every time I've tapered for more than 2 weeks.

They will be ready for the race. I haven't felt too spry during this taper either, but when the gun goes off, the benefits of the taper are almost always evident right away.
