What was I thinking? Logan Canyon to Wind Caves to Green Canyon to Logan Canyon
I have always wanted to do this loop, but now know why I haven't until now. It is hard. Jon and I ran starting at first dam up to Guinavah Malibu (6 miles in 8 min pace) then crossed the road and cruised up the wind caves trail until the trail we were on disapeared (right after the caves but with half the mountain to scale). After wandering lost on the steepest hill I have ever attempted without ropes (ok, it wasn't that bad, but you get the idea), we FINALLY summitted and hit the Birdeneau trail. The last 1/2 mile including 1200+ feet of gain took 30 mins or so to climb. It was ugly. Luckily it was all downhill from there. The bummer was getting the feet to move. Tired was the word of the day. I was very happy to see the drinking fountain in Green Canyon to fill up my bottle as it was 88 degrees out while we were running. Again, what was I thinking? We finally made it back to our cars at first dam well before the sunset, but not before venturing into the lake to chill out for a bit. Now that felt good. 2:27:00 Fastest mile -6:55 Slowest mile -24:01 (not kidding)
