Yesterday I tried .25 mile at a slow jog to test things out. The IT band was immediately unhappy. I think I had better take a rest week and start over.

You'd think we would learn our lesson wouldn't you?
We run 34 miles. We are both total gimps afterward who can barely run 1/4 mile. And yet we sign up for even more.
Hmmmmm...

Oh yeah...and 1 more thing. At some point you may want to consider trying some slow easy barefoot running on the treadmill or outside if its warm enough. in 2009 I couldn't run 1 mile without IT band pain. Then started running barefoot. And never felt that pain again since. Within a week of not being able to run 1 mile without the IT pain, I was running 5 miles knee pain free barefoot or in fivefingers. (although I wouldn't necessarily recommend ramping up barefoot mileage too fast because your calves/feet will start hurting probably). Just a thought. It may not work the same for you, but maybe worth a shot.

Good Idea.
How about along the beach?
I am taking a week to visit cabo! So long to winter...at least for a bit...

I was feeling bad for you until the Mexico comment. Clearly this is just providence to make you slow down and actually enjoy your vacation without dealing with running.
