Ran 1 mile testing different speeds to see if pain/tightness decreases.  The first half mile was pain free.  The second half was a mix of 8:30 to 6:30 pace.  I didn't notice any significant difference in pain/tightness at those speeds.

Spent 30 mins doing exercizes and rolling out the IT band afterward.  Very sore during and afterward.

Sucks you aren't able to run with the Buffalos. Are you still planning on coming out and enjoying the company for the day? It would be cool to have you around.

Sorry, not going to make it. We have a birthday party planned. Good luck!!

I get phantom pain in my IT band just reading about that. 12 years of IT band pain torment and apparently the reminder still lingers in my mind.

I am really curious to know if running barefoot or in some type of flat/thin shoe focusing on 180 steps per minute with a mid to forefoot initial foot strike would affect how your IT feels. For me that was the trick to never having IT pain again. When I did that initially I went from not being able to run 1 mile without IT pain, to just days later running 4 miles pain free, and a couple weeks after that 13 miles pain free. So I just can't help wondering how that might affect your current situation. Of course depending on how inflamed those tendons are, rest, knot reduction, and anti-inflamatory may be the only viable option for a little while.

I did a few short tests barefoot on the beach last week and it hurt right away. So I figure it was too inflamed to allow for any running. I agree though that some barefoot stuff mixed in would be helpful.

one thing to consider if running barefoot is that running on a beach or other soft surface won't require you to improve your form. Running barefoot or in flat, padding less shoes on hard surfaces is what will force you to run with a quick and light stride which is the key ingredient (in my opinion/experience) to less strain on the IT.
