Medium-long run.

9:34 am,  36-43°F, 55-45% humidity, winds calm, except South at 7.8 mph around mile 4 (during which time I was heading south).

I've been a bad, bad girl. I stayed up way too late last night for no good reason. When I finally went to bed at 1 am, I thought it would not be a good idea to get up 3 1/2 hours later to run 14 miles. So I recent my alarm for 6:30 so that I could get 5 1/2 hours of sleep. Still not enough, but better than 3 1/2. When I got up, I worked for about 3 hours and got the kids off to school, and then went for my run.

I overdressed just a little bit. I'm just to used to it being really cold when I run. Not that it was fantastically warm when I ran today, but it was sunny, which I am not used to.

I decided to just run at a moderate effort, and that worked out pretty well until about the last 4 miles, and then it got hard. Michelle passed me in her car and honked and waved when I had just finished the 12th mile, and I was hurting at that point.

I'm going to take it slow at easy for the next 3 days so that I'll be ready for a MP long run on Saturday.

AP: 8:32. Splits: 9:22, 9:01, 8:42, 8:28, 8:41, 8:26, 8:31, 8:27, 8:13, 8:23, 8:25, 8:24, 8:28, 8:20.

I wish I could run comfortably in my supposedly Steady State pace range (8:04 to 8:18), but I'm not quite there. Today's run was about as close as I can get.

That would be hard to do a 14 miler at an 8:10 pace (I'm going from memory and thinking we're about paced the same).

Good choice to take the sleep today! Come 3 in the afternoon you won't regret it! Glad you at least got some sunshine today.

Really nice pace on a pretty long run. Getting a little more sleep and having some sunshing on your shoulders must have been nice.

I'm impressed with your AP for 14 miles.....for what it's worth. You work so hard and are so diligent about your training that I'm sure you'll get to that comfortable 8:10 pace.

Great pace for a 14 miler. Good miles for a Tuesday too.

I wondered if you saw me. I am glad you were able to get a bit of sleep even though 5 1/2 isn't really enough. Good pace on your run. 14 miles is a long time to keep up a quick pace, you are doing awesome!

I saw you. I just didn't manage to wave. You went by too fast and I didn't have the energy at that point.

Great run, Carolyn! Sometimes you just really have to be organized to pull it all off, and you do so well. Is Steady State like tempo or like marathon pace? I'm still kinda new to all these terms.

EXCELLENT effort for a MLR and very NICE pace! Those mid week MLRs are the hardest to get up early for. You are doing AWESOME!

We all need a "lazy day" to stay up and sleep in! You did such a great job with your pace! Hooray for you!

Nice miles and great pace!!

From Snoqualmie on Wed, Mar 03, 2010 at 10:29:37 from 24.18.192.33

I don't think I could stay up until 1 AM if I tried. I'm like a toddler, and will just fall asleep where I sit. Good job on the sleep deprived run, but now you have to be extra good with bedtime to protect your adrenals and immune system!

From Metcalf Running on Wed, Mar 03, 2010 at 10:33:47 from 207.225.192.66

LOL Sno you are so funny, I'm just like you though. If I'm not in bed by 9:30, I'm asleep on the couch.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Wed, Mar 03, 2010 at 11:12:01 from 24.8.167.243

I'm really sleepy around 9 pm, but if I stay up beyond that, I sometimes get a second wind.

Auntieem, steady state pace is between tempo and marathon pace. I just saw it on the McMillan pace chart recently and started wondering about what it was used for. I don't know much about it. Bonnie understands it better.
