General Aerobic run.

5:13 am, 25°F, 50% humidity, wind 3 SE.

I slept last night without any chemical assistance, so I was able to get up and run this morning.

In the past I've designated some days as easy days, but my easy days tended to not be all that different in either distance or pace from a lot of my harder days. Since I started this current marathon training plan a week and a half ago, I've done real recovery days for the first time, where I've really drastically reduced my distance and pace. I'm liking having more of a contrast between hard and easy days because it's letting me pick up the pace more on my hard days.

I somewhat arbitrarily decided to classify anything slower than 8:30 as slow miles and anything faster than 8:30 as fast miles today. I actually don't know my pace on the last .16 because I neglected to stop my watch and so I deleted that lap, but I'm assuming it was fast. In any case, I know I ran that last bit pretty hard.

AP: 8:44. Splits: 9:07, 8:57, 8:45, 9:00, 8:51, 8:37, 8:30, 8:34, 8:15.

Great workout. I was just reading about how recovery days are supposed to be slower. I have a hard time some days staying slow after I've warmed up.

I'm glad you got great sleep last night and were up and at 'em this morning. Hope your little ones are better too.

Thing 3 is staying home with a stuffy nose and a cough, like yesterday, and Thing 1 is complaining of a stomach ache and so I'm letting him stay home too. I'm a push-over. But I'm debating whether to stay home with them or head in to work and leave them alone.

Your times are really good for a slow pace. I assume you were trying to run slow since the splits are slower than 8:30, but barely. Great run! I hope you are feeling better, and that your family gets better soon.

Actually, I was trying to run at a relatively fast, but comfortable pace, where I could talk if I needed to. I did speak out loud to myself a couple of times just to verify that I could speak.

I didn't really push hard until I got to the little hill sprint hill that leads from the green belt up to my street and then up my street to my house.

That is so funny, I consider slow pace anything over an 8:30 also. Crazy. Great run today. Your splits look really good.

We are on the same page lately. I've been working for that contrast between slow and hard days as well. I've finally begun to figure out that if I want to do the intense track and speed workouts (and I really do!), I've got to sacrifice some of the intensity on other days. Gotta "earn" those really fun workouts, by being sensible the rest of the time.

I love those arbitrary classifications of fast and slow paces... Sometimes my "fast" pace is a heck of a lot slower than another day's "slow" pace, and I still find myself trying to effectively classify them as easy, tempo, etc.. I'm finding that the longer I do this crazy running thing, the more value I place on perceived effort/exertion for speedwork (on the VERY rare occasion that I do any real speedwork).
