Easy run on MacArthur Ranch Road loop.

5:09 am, 36° F, 36% humidity, wind 5 SE, partly cloudy, full moon.

I felt really sluggish at the beginning of this run. It took me half the run to really get going.

At one point I was running on the shoulder of the road and noticed the glow of a headlight approaching me from behind and for a split second I thought it was a car even though it wasn't making any noise. I jumped up onto the grass to avoid it. But it turned out to be a bicycle. It just startled me. Later I was nearly hit by a car turning right from a side street onto the street I was running on, but I was able to pull up short and avoid it. The driver mouthed "sorry" or something like that. The driver was a teenage girl. Not long after that, I encountered old man with the stiff arm runner and passed him. That's about all that happened on my run this morning. Except my husband called me a couple of times during my run and I had to take off my glove to answer the phone because I can't slide it open with a glove on. That made me kind of cold. The temperature actually dropped a degree over the course of my run.

I'm still stressed about something.

AP: 9:26. Splits: 10:11, 9:58, 9:48, 9:37, 9:44, 9:18, 9:05, 8:57, 8:49, 8:59.

That is an eventful run. Running in the dark is tough, it is not my favorite!! I do have to say that it was 10 degrees warmer in Colorado today, what is up with that???

Sorry you are still stressed. You will get it figured out soon!!

Hey, that Mormon Halloween Singles Dance memoir book....do not read it. It was interesting, but she has a mouth on her and she is kind of crass (kind of being an understatement at times). Her book was out to prove you can still be a single Mormon in New York, but she kind of "proves" the opposite. She lives a teenage life in her twenties, it is almost sad. Anyway, really not worth reading. I was very disappointed. On to a new book today and it better be good because the last three have left me wanting!

Nice miles!! Your dedication and consistansy always inspire me to keep at it.

I hope that you can figure out your stressors. Running usually helps, but I have also had times when running seems to stress me out even more. Your laps are great, don't know if you planned to get faster but you did!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Dec 01, 2009 at 10:21:44 from 24.8.167.243

Kelli, I'm reading Peace Like a River now.

It would help if my stressor would run or do some kind of exercise.

Sorry about still being stressed. Being in a funk is no bueno. I do have to say, I am continually impressed with your consistent miles and strength. I think it is your dedication and consistency that allow you to stay injury free, something I'm very jealous of. Great miles today. You must have been out early early.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Dec 01, 2009 at 10:41:09 from 24.8.167.243

Just to clear things up a little, it's not that I'm really in a funk. Someone I live with is in a funk, and I'm worried about that.

From Kelli on Tue, Dec 01, 2009 at 10:52:26 from 71.219.71.229

Someone I live with is in a funk, too. Maybe we should commiserate and try to solve their problems together? I think my running group is tired of hearing me relate my stress with this child!!! Sometimes it is even more stressful when it is not your own stress, don't you think?

Peace Like a River is GOOD (Jun, you would like it, too)! I feel good about recommending that one to you. I will NEVER recommend a book that I have not read again!!!

Great run today, CC.

Book recommendation you might like: What To Say When You Talk To Yourself by Shad Helmstetter.

From JD on Tue, Dec 01, 2009 at 11:15:11 from 70.96.78.157

Good miles today. You are so consistent, and early. Seriously, your a good example to a slacker like myself. When I have to get back to running in the mornings, and feel like whining, I'll think of how you pull it off virtually every day.

It's hard when you live with someone who's in a deep funk. I know, I wake up with myself everyday. :-)

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Dec 01, 2009 at 11:30:38 from 198.241.159.80

Thank you all for your kind words.

Kelli, I removed the Mormon Halloween Singles Dance book from my library hold list.

Snoqualmie, I added What To Say When You Talk To Yourself to my library hold list. My local library branch doesn't have it so they'll have to request it from another branch.

Nice job this morning Carolyn! I also have a 'stressor' in my house. I can understand...well, I'm assuming anyway.

Your consistency is amazing as always! Are you heading out here at all for the holidays?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Dec 01, 2009 at 15:29:19 from 198.241.174.15

As a matter of fact, we probably are, Rachel. The plan right now is to be there the week after Christmas. We'll probably be staying near Park City, but I might see if I can spend a night or two in the Salt Lake Valley so that I can get up early in the morning to run with you guys.

From Nan Kennard on Tue, Dec 01, 2009 at 15:56:53 from 174.51.250.151

Nice run today. Its too bad we cant burn other people's calories and inject endorphins into them so they'll feel better and be happier too. There are plenty of people who would benefit from the positive effects of exercise. At least you are benefiting from it.

Sounds like you have some good reading to do too.

From Kelli on Tue, Dec 01, 2009 at 16:30:15 from 71.219.71.229

I would say that we could drive to meet you for a run, but it is WAY colder up there. NO WAY!!!!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Dec 01, 2009 at 16:45:25 from 198.241.174.15

I'm worried about how I'm going to run when I'm up there (other than the mornings I come down to SL) because the rail trail I ran on when I was there before will probably be all snow covered. Maybe I'll just run repeats on this MONSTER hill that is just outside my sister's neighborhood (I'll be staying with my sister).

From Kelli on Tue, Dec 01, 2009 at 17:26:56 from 71.219.71.229

I ran on that rail trail (the paved portion) this summer, it is very nice!!! You never know, if the weather stays like this, you will be good to go (it will be cold, but there will not be much snow!)

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Dec 01, 2009 at 17:49:54 from 198.241.174.15

I didn't know there was a paved portion. My sister lives near Jordanelle Reservoir, not really in Park City, so I ran on the part out by her when I was there before. I can handle the cold. More than an inch or two of snow will put me out of business.
