Russian champion tries Crocs, commits to racing a marathon in them

Nikolay Chavkin in the video below did 3x1000, first two in Adidas carbon-fiber models, the last one in Crocs. Surprised by the result (2:52, 2:52, 2:50) with the fastest interval done in Crocs, he committed to racing a marathon in Crocs if the video gets 42K likes and 195 comments (for 42 km 195 m, the marathon distance). Nikolay's current marathon PR is 2:14:00. The video was created by a Russian sporting goods store chain. Their moto is "more sports - brighter life", which we think is wonderful, and also deserves a Like. If you want to see a fast marathon in Crocs, go to the video and click the Like button. I've been running two or three times per week with Michelle and Michelle since about the beginning of the year. Each time my run is about 3 miles. They run 5 miles, but they have to run farther than I do to get to our meeting place and then the route goes past my house and I stop at that point and they have to continue on to get home.

We are really slow because I'm fat and out of shape now. Also, Michelle is pregnant again, so she has slowed down a bit, though she's in much better shape than I am.

We run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, but I miss a day sometimes for various reasons. For example, I'm going to miss this Friday because I need to come in to work early for a meeting with someone in London.  But I made up for the missed Friday already this week. Another woman I know, Marci, wants to start running with me. But whe can do it only every other Tuesday because her husband doesn't have to work those days and so he can be home with the kids in the morning while we run. Yesterday was the first day that both of us were able to make it and so I ran with her yesterday. As a result, I've already got my three days this week since I ran on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

I need to get my eating under control so that I can lose some weight. Then I will be able to run faster and get in better shape. I'm struggling with the food right now. There are several things in my life that are stressing me out and I'm having a hard time pulling myself together.

I don't know that I'll be on the blog much, but I wanted to let you know that I'm still alive and kicking.

I'm so glad to hear you're still running, Carolyn! I'm starting back at the rugged beginning after taking off for ... too long! But my baby is now 8 months old, so it's time to stop putting it off. :)

You're out and doing it! That is the important part. Obviously, I've missed a few weeks :) plus, I've been a really bad blogger lately. Just no time.

Happy Birthday today Carolyn! I hope those stresses have eased enough to give you a good break - at least for today. Hope to see you around this summer if you make it out here!!

I think this run was with Marci. She is willing to go slow with me.

I'm still trying to get back in the saddle again. I can't believe I actually managed to get out on a Monday morning today. I met up with Michelle and Michelle. They had to go slow because of me. I can't believe how slow I am now.

I was thinking yesterday that maybe I should start doing the shred again. Then I remembered that Carly has my shred video. Maybe I'll have to get it back. She's skinny and doesn't need it as much as I do.

Oh the dreaded shred :) I'm glad you're getting back in the saddle. Just think of how many times you changed your pace or route for Michelle and Michelle. That is what friends are for!! Especially BRF's (best running friends) you'll be back at it in no time. Keep it up!

We had a big group this morning. Besides me, there were Michelle and Michelle and Ariane like usualy, but Michelle 1 brought her sister-in-law and Ariane brought her neighbor. Her neighbor had a baby 6 months ago and hasn't run since before her pregnancy, and so she was slow and took some walk breaks, which was just fine with me. I did get significantly faster on the third mile than I was on the first two. I guess it has always taken me two really slow miles before I could do anything else. It's just that really slow is much slower now than it used to be.

How is your running going with graduation and the end of school? Your second son graduated this year didn't he?

From JD on Mon, Jun 25, 2012 at 12:31:48 from 70.96.78.149

i hope the wild fires are staying away from your home! and your still able to run in spite of what must be smoky conditions out there.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Wed, Jun 27, 2012 at 10:38:15 from 198.241.174.15

Hi JD,

Thanks for your concern. The wild fires are well away from my home and we're not dealing with particularly smoky conditions where I am.

I suppose I could run if I wanted to. I've lost my running partner and thus my motivation because Michelle is too far along in her pregnancy to run. I think she's due in a week or two. I've just gotten too fat and lazy lately. And it is too dang hot here. Maybe I'll take up running again in a couple of months when it cools off a bit.

I'm glad to hear you are safe! I know Colorado Springs is a ways away, but it is good to hear it from you :)

Get back to running quickly...I miss you!
