Day 5. Short easy run. Average pace: 9:59.

Weather: 54°F, 69% humidity, wind 9 SE.

My legs are still sluggish, but the tightness is gone except for just a little lingering tightness in the left hamstring. I felt like I could have run for longer today, but I decided that I should keep it short.

I saw Barbie again this morning in all her glory.

It's high school graduation this afternoon, so my two high-schoolers don't have school today. The older one, who is a junior, is going to graduation because he's in the orchestra that's playing. The seniors took their finals early, but the other grades, which include my two oldest sons, have finals tomorrow and next Tuesday and Wednesday. Next Wednesday is the last day of school for all of my kids, and is 6th grade Continuation, in which my third son is involved. I've got to have the quilts done by then. I should finish the 2nd quilt top tonight. Then I've just got to quilt and bind them. They are not going to be very heavily quilted. I need to buy some batting and fabric for the backs. I figure the work I'm doing on these quilts more than makes up for all the volunteering at the school I didn't do during the year.

I just read you whole week. It sounds like you are healing very nicely :) It was so much fun to hang out with you this past weekend :) You had such a GREAT race :) the fall marathon sounds like a great plan. You should be fine with it. I am really glad that my first marathon is 20 minutes from my house ;) Travel makes things a little more stressful.

Have a GREAT day!!!!

Great recovery, Carolyn. Enjoy your quilting!

You should get a photo of Barbie and post it...maybe attract a mate for her that way! lol!

Another happy day of quilting! Busy woman.

Great recovery week for you, I am so glad that you are feeling so good!

Sounds like you have a lot going on--it's good that you're in recovery mode and you have a little extra time on your hands, probably.

What does the rest of your week look like as far as running is concerned? What about next week?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Thu, May 21, 2009 at 13:58:09 from 198.241.217.15

Kelli, I wish it was a day of quilting, but I've got this crazy thing called a full-time job. I have to do all the quilting in the evening. The good news is I'm almost done with the second quilt top.

Tracy, I'm going to rest tomorrow and then do a fairly short easy run on Saturday. I'm thinking I'll run 4 days next week, probably Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday, and then go to at least 5 maybe back up to 6 days/week the following week. I haven't decided on mileage. I'll just increase, particularly after next week and try to get back up to around 50 miles/week by the time I'm 4 weeks post race.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Thu, May 21, 2009 at 14:52:57 from 198.241.217.15

Yeah, JD. I'll just go up to her on the street and say, "You don't know me, but can I take a picture of you so that I can post it on the internet so that all my friends can make fun of you?"

From Nevels on Thu, May 21, 2009 at 15:01:09 from 131.204.15.93

So you're suggesting that there was an ulterior motive when that strange guy on the street asked me the same thing?

Carolyn, nice recovery run! I can't believe how tired my legs STILL are. A couple things 1) You DO NOT seem old enough to have kids in HS!! Did you start at 8??? 2) 1/2 a quilt top in one evening??? WOW!! I am simply in awe. You are an amazing woman.

oh, I need more info on this 'barbie' chick...I must've missed that entry. And as I was reading back I read about the fall marathon. My vote is DO IT! Don't worry about the cruise, I did a 2 week cruise in March. I did a 20 before then was able to take it easy and just did 7-8 every other day on the ship. You can definately do it!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Thu, May 21, 2009 at 17:56:27 from 198.241.217.15

Rachel, I was 22, almost 23 when my first child was born. And I didn't do a half a quilt top in one evening. I got some done on the 2nd quilt top when I was in Utah, did some more on it on Tuesday night, and then some more on Wednesday night. I should be able to finish it tonight. I'm just making two relatively small (67" x 46") very simple (just 6" blocks with 1" sashing) quilts for the 6th grade to commemorate the outdoor ed trip they did earlier this year. I didn't have to make the blocks. They're just squares of muslin that the kids drew on.

The Barbie chick is this woman that I often see out walking in my neighborhood when I'm running in the mornings. She has big poofy blond hair and has full make-up on at 6:00 when she's out walking. In the winter she wore a velour track suit. Now she's wearing shorts and a shirt that provides significant cleavage.

Just act like you are taking a picture of a tree!

From RAD on Fri, May 22, 2009 at 00:19:16 from 67.166.99.8

I'm with Kelli on the picture thing :)

The words quilt and easy don't aren't in the same sentence in my vocabulary. I still can't believe you have kids in HS, I totally thought you were like 32!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Fri, May 22, 2009 at 00:30:21 from 71.229.164.25

You must not have noticed my gray hair, Rachel ;)
