Day 4. No running today.

I got up and did the No More Trouble Zones video. It takes about an hour and is a pretty good workout. I'm trying to take advantage of my no running days to work on some strength training.

I was looking at the Ogden Marathon results yesterday and I discovered that if I had registered in the Athena division (which I could have because I weigh more than 140 lbs.), I would have taken first place in the division. The woman who did get first place ran 3:49. Oh well. Maybe I'd rather be 11th place in the old skinny lady division than 1st place in the fat lady division (not that over 140 is necessarily fat - I'm just saying).

I've got to make two quilts/wall hangings for the 6th grade and they have to be done by next Thursday. I would make just one, but it would be way too big (I've got to use 87 6-inch blocks that the kids drew on), so I'm making two smaller ones. I got the quilt top for the first one done last night and I'm about half done with the second quilt top.

1st, 11th, both seem pretty freaking amazing to me. I am hoping to crack the top 200 in my age division come Top of Utah. Ha.

From Kelli on Wed, May 20, 2009 at 09:57:11 from 71.219.85.34

Have fun with the quilt making!!

I looked at the Athena division and thought the same thing!!! Us "fat" runners need to stick together! What if they did not give you a choice and you HAD to register for Athena if you were over 140? How many of us do you think there are????

From Carolyn in Colorado on Wed, May 20, 2009 at 10:02:07 from 71.229.164.25

I realized that if we had both registered in the Athena division you would have beat me, Kelli. But we could have been 1st and 2nd!

I bet there are a lot of women who are between 140 and 150. I really don't think that's fat, especially if you've got decent muscle tone. I think they should make the cut-off for Athena 150, at least.

From Tracy17 on Wed, May 20, 2009 at 10:06:36 from 209.175.177.37

At the Illinois Marathon, the Athena division (which I think was what it was called) was over 160 lbs.

How can over 140 lbs be big? I know they don't call it the fat lady division, but that's what it is. That actually pisses me off.

I weigh 150 and I'm nearly 6 feet tall. I prefer to say that I am statuesque.

Maybe they should make people UNDER 140 lbs. register in a different category.

From Tracy17 on Wed, May 20, 2009 at 10:17:24 from 209.175.177.37

By the way, I just ate a piece of cake. And I laughed while shoving it in my mouth because of my last comment. Maybe now I weigh 151.

From Kelli on Wed, May 20, 2009 at 10:29:09 from 71.219.85.34

I think it is good to adjust for weight within reason (especially for tall people!) But, I agree, 140 is ridiculous. On my blog after the SL Half Marathon I made a big deal about it. When I found out the cut off for Athena was 140, I went to the Expo and made them change my division---and I told them it was ridiculous! I came in 2nd in the Athena division, the first Athena actually was the 6th woman overall (and beat me by like 10 minutes). There is proof! I think Athena should be 160 and above, that is more reasonable.

But, heck, we are FAST "fat" runners!!!!!! Isn't the average weight of a woman 145, BTW???

I want cake for breakfast!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Wed, May 20, 2009 at 10:33:21 from 71.229.164.25

Cake for breakfast sounds awesome! But I've got to get back to running decent mileage (1.87 so far this week is pathetic) before I can do something like that!

From Tracy17 on Wed, May 20, 2009 at 10:34:00 from 209.175.177.37

I already ate breakfast. This was my mid-morning snack (at 9:30).

Gotta love/hate the teacher's lounge. The good thing is that someone always brings in food. The bad thing is I cannot resist temptation.

From Kelli on Wed, May 20, 2009 at 10:36:37 from 71.219.85.34

That is so funny. I used to be a teacher and we would bring all of our leftovers from family events and stuff. Then we started taking tuns bringing snacks---we each had a specific day every two weeks. We were all chubby by the time I quit.

From snoqualmie on Wed, May 20, 2009 at 10:38:45 from 67.171.56.164

Carolyn - are you tall? You look so slender in your picture.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Wed, May 20, 2009 at 10:45:53 from 71.229.164.25

BTW, Tracy. I'm only 5'5", so I'm sure you spread out your 150 lbs. much better than I spread out my 145 lbs.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Wed, May 20, 2009 at 11:02:18 from 71.229.164.25

Nope, Sno. Not tall.

From Tracy17 on Wed, May 20, 2009 at 11:02:19 from 209.175.177.37

I still don't think 145 lbs. is heavy. Look at those arm and leg muscles in your picture. That's awesomeness, not squishiness...

Sometimes I hate being a woman--we are constantly forced to assess the status of our bodies. If we aren't stick-skinny, we are considered (or we consider ourselves) big. I try to refuse to take part in all that, but it's so hard not to, especially when I'm hormonal and all that.

From Metcalf Running on Wed, May 20, 2009 at 11:19:43 from 207.225.192.66

I think the whole 140 for the Athena is crazy!! Carolyn I have seen you in person and would never consider that you would fit into that weight catagorie. I think they need to reevaluate it. I think it should be at least 160-170.

From JD on Wed, May 20, 2009 at 11:21:22 from 64.65.159.206

Wow - I never would have guess your weight at 125 pds. or so. I met you in person, you're all ectomorph-like! It must be solid muscle.

When Kelli mention the Athena division at SL marathon was 140 pds. I thought for sure she was mistaken. I think 160 would be more reasonable. Isn't the men's clydesdale div. 200 pds or more?

From JD on Wed, May 20, 2009 at 11:22:08 from 64.65.159.206

I meant that I WOULD HAVE guessed your weight at 125 pds. or so.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Wed, May 20, 2009 at 11:57:24 from 198.241.217.15

Thank you for your kind comments about my physical shape, Tracy, Lori, and JD. Don't worry. I'm not obsessed about my weight and I don't think I'm fat (I used to be fat). I just think that 140 for the Athena division is a crock.

From Kelli on Wed, May 20, 2009 at 13:05:41 from 71.219.85.34

We are mocking the "fat" status of ourselves. I am a little jiggly in the middle, but I have had 5 kids and I have a lot of skin!

For men it is typically 200 pounds. I have seen 190 before, but I can not remember which race that was. And for women it used to be 150, but lately I have noticed many races dropping down to the 140's. A CROCK is right!

We will just consider ourselves DNAG FAST "chubby" runners. I think I am gonna make a shirt!

From april27 on Thu, May 21, 2009 at 10:09:44 from 99.188.251.180

All this fat talk makes me want a cupcake. LOL

Carolyn--are you a teacher?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Thu, May 21, 2009 at 10:32:57 from 71.229.164.25

No April, I'm not a teacher. I work in the training department of a large corporation developing training materials.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Thu, May 21, 2009 at 10:33:46 from 71.229.164.25

April, Tracy, who commented about having a piece of cake, is a teacher. Maybe you were thinking of her.

From april27 on Thu, May 21, 2009 at 22:02:51 from 99.188.251.180

I guess I though that b/c of this quilt you are making--but it is probably for your kids class?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Fri, May 22, 2009 at 00:31:08 from 71.229.164.25

Yes, April. The quilt is for my #3 son's class.
