This week I have been having "Running Withdrawals".  My knee has been bothering me consistenly for a couple of  months, and off and on for a year.  I got a cortisone shot at the beginning and end of June.  At the beginning of June, both sides of my knee were bothering me.  It started out on one side.  So, I wore a knee band and got some orthotics for my shoes.  That seemed to fix the problem.  Until the other side of my knee started bothering me a ton.  So, I took off the knee band and kept running.  Then both sides of my knee were killing me.  So, the original knee pain is gone from the first cortisone shot.  The second spot is now about 50% better from the second shot.  And I took out the orthotics too.

If you were a non-runner, you'd probably think I am totally crazy.  This week I have been dying to do a long, fast run.  Somehow running a hard run makes me feel like I can conquer the world.  Today I ran somewhere between one and two miles.  I ran to West Jordan Park, and then ran through the park.  I ran on the grass, since the softer surface seems to bother my knee less.  I enjoyed it, but would like to go much further.

Another pathetic knee-injury run.  One mile around the neighborhood.  I love being outside.  The weather has been cool for a few days, and I really enjoy it.  Tomorrow is going to be a bike ride.  Wednesday, back to the doctor again.

A mile is a mile, right? Good job on getting out there! I hope the recovery is going well and the Dr appt is good news.

The weather was great for a few days, huh? It was a mean little tease, now back to the heat we go!

I went to the doctor today.  I got another cortisone shot in my knee. Hopefully this will do the trick.  The inflammation has gone down some since the last shot, just not all the way.  No run today.

Yesterday I biked for 45 minutes.  I have figured out why bikers wear biking clothes.  If I wear my running shorts on a bike, it gives me a wedgie.  Yesterday I wore my favorite pair of workout pants.  After they got caught in the bike chain a few times, I rolled up my pant legs.  I guess I should get some real biking clothes.  And to think that I bikers just wore biking clothes to look cool.....

Biked about 7-8 miles.  I can attempt to run on Monday.  Its funny that I think I'm in good shape since I run.  I'm a wimpy biker and pilates is pretty tough.

Pilates is tough!!! So is biking. Maybe you should get some of those shorts with the padded butt?

Take good care of the knee, I hope it gets to feeling better very soon.

Last night I ran one mile at the track.  My knee seems to be feeling quite a bit better.  I'm trying to take it easy, since I really want it to get better.

This morning I went and did 55 minutes of pool running.  It is a good workout and doesn't bother my knee at all.

I'm tired so I think I'm gonna take a nap after I get my toddler down for a nap.

I went and swam a few laps and then did pool running.  Good workout.  I tried to avoid the guy I call "Mr. Wierd Guy" who hangs out in the pool and tries to chat with women.

I got a new knee brace from the dr yesterday.  It is supposed to make it so my patella doesn't slide around.  Hopefully the sore spot on my knee will get all better.

I ran 3 miles today and it didn't hurt for the first time in months.  I didn't go too fast.  My daughter came with me on her bike, and I had to keep stopping for her to catch back up with me.  Next time its just gonna be me and the Ipod.

The knee brace chafed the other leg though.  Now I have a really sore spot that is almost bleeding.  And my daughter told me that I looked handicapped wearing the knee brace.  It is very bulky.

I am excited to run, even if it means wearing a knee brace for a while.  The last decent run I had was the Ogden 1/2 Marathon in May, and that's been a long time.
