What's this? Did Burt run today? Why yes I did. My back felt all right. The only real problem was the fact that I ate dinner at 10pm, went to bed at midnight, and got up at 5am. I felt pukalicious.

I'm not sure on the exact distance since I forgot my Garmin at home. And I won't be able to trace it out on MapMyRun because I have no idea which way we went. But I met up with my Ragnar team this evening. Well, only half of us showed up, but that's a great showing for a Ragnar team get together. We went to Las Sendas in Northeast Mesa. It's a rich man's community. One of my first jobs in civil engineering was doing single family residence custom lot grading and drainage plans. I probably did about 20 of them for this area.
I saw another former Ragnar teammate before we started. He was with his buddy. I told them this was my new Ragnar team and we are Running 4 Nie. His buddy knew about Nie Nie. I didn't know how far everyone wanted to run. I thought maybe three or four. Turns out they were all pretty hardcore and wanted to run 8. I haven't ran that far in a dog's age. But I needed to.
It was about 7:45 when we started, but it was as hot as an oven. I drank a little water before and figured I'd better save some for when I was done. We all started running, but everyone was running at their own pace, so I stuck with a girl that was running in the middle. She was glad I did because she was getting a side stitch and I helped push her through it. There were some nice mild hills which I hope is good Wasatch Back training.
The highlight of the evening was after we were done and talking in the parking lot. A field mouse ran out from under my truck right towards two of the girls. They screamed. |

I had a little bit of work I still needed to get done today so I ran to my office. It was 10:30am and about 80 degrees out. I took my bike route up until I reached the canal. Then I ran down the canal to Southern. I saw 4 ducks and 1 turtle.
Time - 21:31 (avg. pace 8:37)
Splits - 8:36, 8:41, 4:15 for 0.5 (8:31 pace)
When I finished working I texted my wife to tell her I was heading back. She told me nobody was home. I asked if I was locked out of the house, and she said yep. So I stayed at work for a while longer and broke my weekly record on Bejeweled Blitz.
I took the same route on the way home. It was about 82 degrees out at 4pm. I don't know why it's so nice out today, but I'll take it. I saw the same 4 ducks in the canal. I also saw a guy sitting on the side of the bank fishing. He noticed the Pat Tillman T-shirt I was wearing and told me he had ran the same race. We talked for a while as he chewed on his tobacco and I explained how it was all right to fish in this canal but not the one just east of it. Just as I was starting to get bored his phone rang. Saved by the bell.
Time - 20:48 (avg. pace 8:20)
Splits - 8:30, 8:14, 4:05 for 0.5 (8:09 pace) |
