I set the alarm to go off at 4am and hit the 5-min. snooze until 4:20am.  Then I got up and got ready to go.  After a little bit I noticed that my body was rebelling against my apparent need to be up so early.  I hit the toilet and tried to be as efficient as possible because I didn't want to be late getting to Brad's house.  Brad lives half a mile away, and by the time I got out the door it was 4:57am.  So I was only a couple of minutes late, but he was waiting for me at the corner.

We started out maybe a little too fast for him.  He had to walk a couple of times, but he told me that I inspired him to run farther than he would have on his own.  We had a fun talk, but we always do.  Oh, except that time we came home from camping and I had car sickness.  I wasn't much for conversation then.

We ran from his corner up to Broadway, over to the canal, down the canal where I introduced him to the drinking fountain, down to Southern, up Los Alamos, across Pueblo, and back up 32nd to his corner.  It was probably just over 3.2 miles, but I stopped my Garmin both times we walked.  Then I ran back home and got just over 4 miles in all together.

Brad is one of my dearest friends and has been since we met in college.  Brad was adopted and is not really sure about his heritage, but he may very well be black.  He has a 7 year old boy with Down Syndrome.  We've already decided that our children are getting married.  We used to play the Movie Quotes game on our lunch break when we worked together.  The only chance I'd have a beating him was when I teamed up with Alexis and we used our combine scores.  But even then he'd  usually win.  One of our favorite movies we like to quote is O Brother Where Art Thou.  When all else fails and we run out of stuff to talk about, we just start quoting that movie.

Time - 41:06 (avg. pace 10:07)

Splits - 9:41, 10:23, 10:37, 9:49, 0:33

With no daylight savings time you have to get up even an hour earlier to get running before the sun is up. I just realized that and that sucks.

O Brother Where Art Thou is my favorite movie. My wife loves to quote The Grinch with Jim Carrey.

Care for some gopher?

From Burt on Wed, Aug 03, 2011 at 12:10:03 from 206.19.214.144

No thank you, Delmar. A third of a gopher would only arouse my appetite without bedding it back down.

From Chad on Wed, Aug 03, 2011 at 12:10:32 from 168.177.153.27

No thanks. A third of a gopher would only arouse my apatite without beddin' her back down.

Doesn't look like you were very efficient in getting off the toilet.

From RAD on Wed, Aug 03, 2011 at 16:17:48 from 76.27.16.189

I was enjoying the comments...then I got to SlowJoe and just laughed!! HA!! Nice!

Glad you were able to finally get off of the throne and get to Brad's corner. I love running with friends. I think it is why I love running so much. Not so fun alone - I like company.

From Burt on Wed, Aug 03, 2011 at 16:21:00 from 206.19.214.144

Joe - I take great pride on having a clean backside.

RAD - Who would have thought you like to talk?

From Burt on Wed, Aug 03, 2011 at 16:22:47 from 206.19.214.144

Hey mister! I don't mean to be tellin' tales out of school, but there's a feller in there that'll pay you ten dollars if you sing into his can.

It's a good thing your mother died giving birth to you. If she'd have seen you, she'd have died of shame.

From Chad on Wed, Aug 03, 2011 at 16:35:59 from 168.177.153.27

Moral fibre? I invented moral fibre! Pappy O'Daniel was displaying rectitude and high-mindedness when that egghead you work for was still messing his drawers!

I's suspect that like me you are endowed with the gift of gab :)

From Burt on Wed, Aug 03, 2011 at 16:49:52 from 206.19.214.144

I flatter myself that such is the case. In my line of work it's plum necessary.

From The Quiet Pirate on Wed, Aug 03, 2011 at 16:52:11 from 65.191.246.68

No movie lines, but I love running with friends who've got lots in common with us. I hope Brad is working on getting the 8 cows ready for his son to take your daughter's hand :-)

From Burt on Wed, Aug 03, 2011 at 16:55:37 from 206.19.214.144

QP - Goats. That's part of the reason we ran so early was so that Brad would have time to go milk the goats.

From Burt on Wed, Aug 03, 2011 at 16:56:26 from 206.19.214.144

From Rhett on Thu, Aug 04, 2011 at 13:02:18 from 74.32.220.216

Sounds like you know more about Brad than Brad does. You should do his biography. :)

From flatlander on Thu, Aug 04, 2011 at 13:06:09 from 198.207.244.102

Good entry, but I'm out of my league on this one, I'm no good at movie quotes (that might improve if I ever went to a movie). But nice running with your friend in the heat, sure that made it a little more bearable.
