I've started a new job.  This week they are training me.  I have to work Monday thru Thursday from 5:30am to 5:30pm.  Then starting next week I will be working from 5:30pm to 5:30am for 7 days on and 7 days off.  The job pays peanuts, but it has good benefits.  I took it so that I will have something stable, and at the same time it will allow me to start my own consulting business that I can do on my 7 days off.  So.......we'll see how this affects my running.  Already I've been way to exhausted at the end of the day to go out and get some miles.  Ugh.  At least I have the possibility of discovering dead bodies in the canals.

I'm glad you found a job. Too bad about the hours, though.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Wed, Nov 02, 2011 at 22:45:18 from 24.22.239.183

Sounds like a tough schedule. I used to do 12 hour days, 4 days on and then 4 off. That was hard because my days off were constantly moving back one day every week. I don't know if 7 in a row would be better or worse, I was always beat by the end of the 4th day. Good luck!

From RAD on Wed, Nov 02, 2011 at 22:56:00 from 98.202.23.178

Good luck with the job, schedule and new business. Maybe do p90x on your 'on' week and running on the 'off' week. Your own little version of run less run faster.

From Burt on Wed, Nov 02, 2011 at 23:04:55 from 72.223.91.148

Dale - Hopefully I'll get used to it.

RT - At least I get to take cat naps every now and then.

RAD - I was thinking the exact same thing today about P90X. :)

From RAD on Wed, Nov 02, 2011 at 23:05:44 from 98.202.23.178

great minds think alike :)

From Rye on Thu, Nov 03, 2011 at 12:02:39 from 70.58.163.66

Congrats on the job. How does one pay bills with peanuts?? All of my creditors prefer cash or check. Do I need to go into peanut farming? We do things alot different in Idaho!

From AZDesertmonsoon on Thu, Nov 03, 2011 at 12:07:43 from 204.17.31.126

That is good news. Does this mean you are giving up your 3rd thursday volunteering.

From SlowJoe on Thu, Nov 03, 2011 at 12:08:52 from 132.3.53.68

Hey, glad you found something stable. I've had to work some ridiculous hours before but it's amazing what you can adapt and get used to. Good luck, and if you find the Phoenix Suns in the canal, I didn't do it.

From ACorn on Thu, Nov 03, 2011 at 12:28:03 from 68.66.168.22

Congrats on the job! However, you should ask them to pay you in trident gum instead of peanuts. People seem to like that in the commercials.

From julieesplin on Thu, Nov 03, 2011 at 14:18:16 from 75.169.166.216

I'm glad you found work. I think nights would be tough for me, but I'm unusually particular about my sleep. What type of consulting work do you do?

From ben on Thu, Nov 03, 2011 at 18:06:19 from 209.33.248.15

Sounds like gov't work to me... I'm glad you found a stable job! Maybe you can run during your lunch break. That's what I do!

From Toby on Thu, Nov 03, 2011 at 19:09:46 from 199.101.224.254

Good luck Burty!

From runningafterbabies on Thu, Nov 03, 2011 at 22:09:23 from 71.195.219.247

Congrats on the new job. I guess that means no more WWF for a while, huh? Benefits rock!

From Burt on Thu, Nov 03, 2011 at 22:27:19 from 72.223.91.148

Rye - I used to pay our babysitter in Macaroni and Cheese.

AZDM - I'll still be able to do the 3rd Thursday this month. They're looking for more male volunteers.

Joe - You can put all the NBA players in the canal. Start with Derek Fisher.

ACorn - Nobody ever pays me in gum :(

Julie - I do custom lot grading and drainage plans.

Ben - It is a govt. job. But I'll be working the night shift, so no lunch breaks for me.

Toby Baloby - thanks!

Melody - actually....I just got a smart phone today...and there's a lot of down time at work, so...

From The Quiet Pirate on Fri, Nov 04, 2011 at 13:47:19 from 152.26.59.252

Hooray for more canal time!

From Burt on Fri, Nov 04, 2011 at 13:50:11 from 68.14.209.26

QP - I better never see your pirate ship floating down my canal.

From Steam8 on Fri, Nov 04, 2011 at 15:23:28 from 166.70.55.77

YAY!! Congrats on your new job!! Benefits are a great add to a job. You have got to be feeling good! Don't worry about your running....you are kicking my butt in that department so you can at least feel good about that too! :)

From Burt on Fri, Nov 04, 2011 at 15:42:58 from 174.255.246.103

Steam - I so hope you can run again soon.

From Tara on Fri, Nov 04, 2011 at 18:07:12 from 75.169.159.43

Ha ha , your post from my last race report was deleted and part of my report was too from the vulgar comments. Can you remember the vulgar word!? LOL. Glad this is a clean blog though.

From Tara on Fri, Nov 04, 2011 at 18:09:47 from 75.169.159.43

Oh and so was Rye's comment. To think of his current standing. Humm.

From Burt on Fri, Nov 04, 2011 at 18:12:43 from 68.14.209.26

I just saw that. Pretty funny.

From Rye on Fri, Nov 04, 2011 at 18:36:06 from 174.27.91.124

As Jack Bauer would say, "I'm going off the grid."

From Britta on Sat, Nov 05, 2011 at 12:10:23 from 99.186.204.184

Congrats on the new job. I hope all goes well for you and your family.

From Burt on Sat, Nov 05, 2011 at 14:14:46 from 72.223.91.148

Rye - Is that another 24 quote? Oh, brother.

Britta - thanks. If not, I'll be moving in with you soon.

From Britta on Sat, Nov 05, 2011 at 16:59:14 from 99.186.204.184

I could always use a cook or nanny.

From ChrisM on Sat, Nov 05, 2011 at 18:33:52 from 86.10.81.85

Go Burt!

Hope the job goes well and your consulting business is successful!

From PRE on Sat, Nov 05, 2011 at 22:19:58 from 99.50.213.11

Jack Bauer might also say "I'm going dark." Congrats on the new job. Hope it does not interfere with the running too much.

From Rye on Sat, Nov 05, 2011 at 22:41:41 from 174.27.70.71

Pre...... Glad to know there is another runner out there that can appreciate a quote from Jack. Eat your heart out Burt. Jack rules!

From Burt on Sat, Nov 05, 2011 at 22:51:14 from 72.223.91.148

Chris - I hope I don't get sued. Or have my license revoked. Or both.

Pre - do not encourage Rye!

From Tara on Sun, Nov 06, 2011 at 19:13:22 from 75.169.159.43

My in-laws just left. Good luck with yours. I actually like mine though.

From Burt on Sun, Nov 06, 2011 at 22:10:17 from 72.223.91.148

I like my in-laws, too. Probably more than my wife likes them. Anyway, they didn't stick around very long, which was nice.
