Good luck to everyone running the St. George Marathon tomorrow.  You marathon runners are awesome.

I felt pretty good this morning, like I was on cruise control.  I ran forward this morning.  There's a canal that cuts through the city block at about a 70° angle.  I saw a guy turn around and head back along the canal.  I wondered if I could get to where it met the street again before he did.  Let's see.  The sine of a 70° angle is 0.9397.  The cosine of a 70° angle is 0.3402.  This means I'm running 28.17% more distance than him.  Do not check my math, AZDM.

I beat him.

Time - 43:30 (avg. pace 8:01)

Splits - 8:06, 7:49, 7:53, 8:15, 8:02, 3:26 for 0.43 (8:00 pace)

Great job. It's fun when there's someone around to fake-race.

From runningafterbabies on Fri, Oct 01, 2010 at 12:19:03 from 67.161.249.168

I would have cheated and used one of those bootleg programs on my spiffy TI82 to figure that one out.

I'm pretty sure those last three lines of your report were in German.

From Burt on Fri, Oct 01, 2010 at 12:37:24 from 206.19.214.144

Catherine - yep. As long as you keep the trash talking inside your head.

Melody - Oh my gosh, you little stinker! I made it through college with my solar powered Casio fx - 300s.

Junior - elementary my friend, elementary.

Sounds like someone studied at the University of Wiscosine!

From nevels on Fri, Oct 01, 2010 at 13:06:42 from 155.74.2.253

the real question is: did you do that in your head whilst running?

From ChrisM on Fri, Oct 01, 2010 at 13:07:58 from 86.178.235.148

Doesn't everyone run with a slide rule?

From nevels on Fri, Oct 01, 2010 at 13:08:59 from 155.74.2.253

yeah, my rule is that if the 2nd baseman has the ball in his glove, i slide...

From Eric Day on Fri, Oct 01, 2010 at 13:12:29 from 189.192.25.81

To much math for me. I can barely get past 1 + 1, and I get that wrong sometimes...

Good run Burt.

From nevels on Fri, Oct 01, 2010 at 13:13:37 from 155.74.2.253

1+1 = 11

From Eric Day on Fri, Oct 01, 2010 at 13:19:05 from 189.192.25.81

See John ? Your math is wrong: 1 + 1 = 1

From Burt on Fri, Oct 01, 2010 at 13:20:39 from 206.19.214.144

Of course I do all the math in my head. It's simple ratios. And now I have all the School House Rock songs stuck in my head.

From ChrisM on Fri, Oct 01, 2010 at 13:20:55 from 86.178.235.148

Nice maths everyone!

From Rhett on Fri, Oct 01, 2010 at 13:42:03 from 184.10.154.226

Great run, but I'm more impressed with the math.

From Nan on Fri, Oct 01, 2010 at 14:10:03 from 24.8.144.22

Your blog just maxed my limit for the amount of math equations I am capable of reading in one week. Now I can't even look at numbers at all next week. Thanks a lot.

From nevels on Fri, Oct 01, 2010 at 14:22:55 from 155.74.2.253

"Now I can't even look at numbers at all next week."

-coming from the one whose very name is computer code for infinity...

(please don't beat me up, Nan...)

From Burt on Fri, Oct 01, 2010 at 14:48:39 from 206.19.214.144

She's going to beat you up to infinity and beyond.

From JD on Fri, Oct 01, 2010 at 14:49:29 from 70.96.78.157

Will the mathness never end!!

From KP on Fri, Oct 01, 2010 at 21:48:16 from 173.24.255.248

Nan isn't going to beat you up, John. She is just going to kick your butt in a race.

Burt, I am ANXIOUSLY awaiting the latest set of pictures that are almost due...

can.not.wait.

From ChrisM on Sat, Oct 02, 2010 at 03:09:30 from 86.178.235.148

so...where are the pics? your new texting number awaits...5-0-0. put 'em up!

From Chad on Sun, Oct 03, 2010 at 16:27:35 from 208.186.134.105

Smokin' fast Burt. I like to put the speed on to pass someone on a run, but then I'm tired but have to keep up speed so as not to let them repass. It sucks.

From Burt on Sun, Oct 03, 2010 at 23:38:10 from 68.225.214.248

Chris - your little story made me very uncomfortable.

allie - Patience. It's not easy photoshopping fake muscles.

Chad - When that happens just pretend you're tying your shoe.

From Chad on Mon, Oct 04, 2010 at 12:07:56 from 168.177.153.5

You know all the tricks Burt.
