I got up to late to go running before celebrating mediocrity.  Maybe I'll go later.  Knowing me, probably not.  Anyway, on the bike ride to work another cyclist passed me up.  Like every day along this stretch I actually ride in the rocks next to the side of the road.  He was out in the middle of the car lane, and he yelled, "You have the right to be in the street.  Come on!" as he urged me to join him.  Not really sure if you have the right to be in the street without a helmet, but what do I know?

Hey don't feel to bad, you have more miles than me this week. You probably should be wearing a helment (of course I'm not certain you want to mess up your fabulous hair). Thanks for reading my race report - It took me forever to get the shading on the nose right.

Ha!

Your cyclist friend is right, you have every right to be in the middle of the lane as the cars. Unfortunately, most drivers don't know that and will either see you as a jerk or not see you at all and hit you. But yes, technically the guy was right. And riding without a helmet in today's world is just dumb.

Wear a helmet, Burton.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Wed, May 25, 2011 at 15:29:01 from 75.196.118.160

I don't know anything about AZ bicycle laws, but I would advise against riding anywhere near the street without a helmet. Your blog posts would either be a lot more or a lot less interesting after a traumatic head injury and I'm not willing to risk it. Be safe!

From Burt on Wed, May 25, 2011 at 15:52:58 from 206.19.214.144

Well, neither one of us was wearing a helmet. That's why I generally stay on the sidewalk. I hung my helmet on the handlebars of my bike one day and my dogs chewed it up. Those mangy mutts! (I was going to say something else, but last time I did, it caused some controversy.)

From april27 on Wed, May 25, 2011 at 16:10:52 from 165.138.243.1

dogs are only good for chewing up your stuff! hahaha

From Burt on Wed, May 25, 2011 at 16:14:54 from 206.19.214.144

No kidding. They chewed through our cable line, too. Luckily we have satellite.

From runningafterbabies on Wed, May 25, 2011 at 18:32:20 from 71.195.219.247

Did the dog chew up your homework too?

From Burt on Wed, May 25, 2011 at 18:49:21 from 206.19.214.144

RAB - I wish! Maybe they chewed up my son's homework, right after I threw water on him to wake him up.

Oh, guess what..? I'm going running with a blogger tomorrow...tune in tomorrow to find out who :)

From Steam8 on Wed, May 25, 2011 at 20:10:18 from 166.70.55.77

Burt, honestly, no joke....you were on the

Lone Faithfuls-need a comment--list!!! Haha! You of all people who get more comments than anyone else! Is that how you do it? ;)

BIKERS STAY OFF THE ROAD! I hate how they ride in the middle of the street farting along going 5 mph while the speed limit is 40 on the street to my house! If you can't go the speed limit....stay on the side of the road! Thank you Burt! There are too many bikers on the road to my house--can you tell? haha!

From Lily on Wed, May 25, 2011 at 22:28:12 from 67.199.178.210

Burt was gonna call the mangy mutt a beyotch. :)

Burt you should really get a new helmet and wear it on your bikeride to work. I'd miss your posts if you were suddenly handi-capable.

From Brent on Wed, May 25, 2011 at 23:06:47 from 66.7.127.67

Burt, retire that old bike with training wheels, get a helmet, crank em up, swim to work every other day, do a Tri with me. Hey, echo echo, be safe, bike crashes no fun. Hey, you can pick up a helmet at a yard sale for a $1. If you had witnessed the bike crash I did last saturday, you would wear two helmets.

Stay Kool, b of BS rools out

From SlowJoe on Thu, May 26, 2011 at 19:31:28 from 184.79.24.255

I bet you never admit to not wearing a helmet again.
