I started running again in 2007 after 14 years of not running.

Run a half marathon in under two hours.

Yeah right Lori. I checked my Garmin and my max speed was 4:59. 4:59. I used to be able to run an entire mile that fast. Now it's just the speed I can barely get to when I run my fastest.

It seems to me that a diet of root beer floats and chili dogs would be the ideal way to make attaining puke pace easier, especially when partaken within an hour or so of a workout.

I know everyone will just be itching to try it.....

Well, again, I started out way too fast. And that first one would've been faster, but I turned the corner and saw one of my old lady regulars, and figured if I kept up at the pace I was at, I would end up finishing the 1/2 mile right about where she was. She would be wondering why I was running at a full sprint and stopping right when I got to her, so I slowed down some before.

Hey Burt, nice workout. I haven't been able to run since Monday (sick), but I was looking at the ARR race calendar today, and found another marathon in the vicinity on November 21 (Saturday!). It's the Mesquite marathon. I may even have to try that one out next year - it looks pretty good. http://www.mammothmarathons.org/m/m.html

I have run that marathon before when they used to call it the TriState Marathon. I guess they have brought it back. It is a brutal course. It was my first marathon and I almost died. I'd like to give it another go. Maybe I will.

The first 16 miles are great, typical UT marathon coming down out of the mountain, then you start running along the old highway paralleling I-15 and there are some mamoth hills over the last 8 miles or so. I thought I was going to die and swore I would never run another marathon.

Control Burt ... control. I think that first 800 cost you about 10-15/secs on the other two laps. Slow it down and do more of them, I would bet you could get them down to below 6 min pace in a month. Especially if you knew you had a big root beer float waiting for you afterward. I need to start running again ... a 20 miler and I can get another root beer float ... or an Egees (?) I have heard they are good? Or at least a Tucson institution?

I have been loving the mornings lately. Very pretty.
