My Garmin's still not working.  I tried everything Melody suggested.  I even went to the Garmin website to update the software, and that didn't help.  Dog-gone-it!

So I have to stick with doing the loops that I know the distance.  The timer still works.  I ran my 3-mile neighborhood loop today.  As I was was about a quarter mile away from home I saw two Mexican girls and their dad walking to the bus stop.  Right away I guessed it was the girls that are bullying my daughter.  Last week as my wife was hauling all our kids and the neighborhood kids to school, one of the girls yelled the B word at the van.  After my wife dropped them all off she came back and confronted the girl.  She told her not to yell curse words anymore, and if she continues to bother our daughter, she would call the police.

My daughter was leaving out the door right when I got home.  I asked my other daughter what the girls looked like, and they confirmed it was them.  So I went back out to try and catch up with her.  I figured the dad was walking his girls to the bus stop because they had told him what happened.  Well, my daughter almost missed the bus and she had to run to catch it.  Then the dad of the girls crossed the road to the other bus stop with his other daughter.  I stood at the corner contemplating if I should go have a talk with him.  Then he looked at me and started staring at me.  So I waved at him.  Then he looked away.  I started to walk closer, but I didn't want to make a scene in front of everyone not knowing how he might react.  So I ran another mile around the block.  Any suggestions on what I should do?  Should I go to his house and ask him to have a talk with his daughters about bullying?

I'm glad I'm not a parent.

From Scott Wesemann on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 13:10:13 from 66.239.250.209

If the bullying keeps up talk to the principal and let them try to take care of the issue. Most schools have a no tolerance policy and if they keep up the bullying they will be suspended.

If that doesn't work brush up on the P90X martial arts DVD and then go kick some booty!

From flatlander on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 13:12:28 from 198.207.244.102

I hate those situations. I found after many years that I could never get the whole story from one kid, including my own. That other dad undoubtedly heard a different version than you did, although I will say I found my own kids' versions usually held up better at the end of the day. If it were me (and it's not), I would wait and see if it happens again before taking the next step.

p.s., I think getting the school involved is a great idea if the bullying continues. That way they can be the bad guys, plus you never know what might happen if you show up at the door.

Before I blow my top I will calmly state that I agree with Scott and Flatlander. I absolutely get fuming mad in situations like these, even if it's not my child. How old is your daughter and these Bullies?

From runningafterbabies on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 16:27:00 from 67.177.9.74

My kids are too young to have crossed this path yet, but it doesn't stop me from being mad about it with you.

I'd listen to the veterans. I always feel bad for blowing up (remember PC cop???). It's best to talk about things once your pretty calm and level headed about it.

If the bullying continues I agree with Scott on the P90X. Oh, and don't forget your Nacho Libre mask.

And I'm totally bummed about your Garmin. Have you tried calling them? They sent out a brand new one to me, but I think I'd had it less than a year.

From Lily on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 16:49:46 from 67.199.181.73

Go talk to their Dad. I lay the smack down when that crap starts happening! But be courteous with their father. Sorry about your Garmin. That is a beotch

From RAD on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 17:23:07 from 67.172.229.125

ugghhh...I don't think there is a good way out of this one. I'm just glad I don't have to deal with teenagers and bus stops and all that crap yet! good luck with the girls, father and the Garmin!

From Burt on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 18:47:59 from 206.19.214.144

I'm inclined to take the advice of waiting it out. School's almost over. We're moving soon. Hopefully it blows over. I do question if I have the whole story, and I know the girls told their parents a different story; hence him walking them to the bus stop. But I'll believe my daughter who I've seen standing alone at the bus stop over someone who's yelled obscenities in front of a handful of witnesses. My daughter's 12 and so are the bullies. And it seems to be over something so trifle that I wonder if I am getting the whole story.

Anyway, my daughter talked to one of her teachers and asked for the seating arrangement to be moved, and the teacher basically told her she needs to deal with her own problems and/or have the parents deal with it.

From Kim on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 18:54:47 from 67.199.180.90

oohhhh...I don't like when a teacher can't even make a little seating arrangement change. I'm glad school is almost over for your daughter's sake! 12-14 year old girls can be so mean. Good luck. I always think the calm approach is the best first choice. (Not that I always make the correct choice in those situations.)

From seeaprilrun on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 19:29:34 from 72.205.226.44

I would be in the wait-until-it-happens-again boat and then if it did, courteously approach the father. It's pretty maddening though that the teacher can't even change the seating arrangement. Glad school is about over!

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 19:49:52 from 75.230.250.50

I know it's not always the case, but odds are pretty good that those girls learned that behavior from their parents. Be ready for more of the same if you talk to dad. Especially if he was "mean mugging" you at the bus stop.

If these girls are bothering your daughter in class, I would insist that the seating arrangement be changed.

Burt I am pretty impressed that your blog post is still holding strong as the number one hot discussion. You deserve it though you little social butterfly you

LOL LILY! It's because Sasha made it to where it will stay up for 3 months from the last post. It was cool at first. Now it's embarrasing.

Burt the social butterfly! LOL

Remind me to bump it when we get to three months, it would be very discombobulating if the entry was to disappear, I feel a kind of reassurance when it is there

From Nan on Wed, May 12, 2010 at 00:42:00 from 174.51.250.151

I think you should wait to get involved too. You're moving so soon and school is almost over anyway. If the situation is super unbearable for your daughter and the teacher isn't willing to help maybe you could help give your daughter ideas of how to either resolve it on her own or just avoid the bully as best she can.

WARNING: ALL P90X workouts have the potential to be butt whooping and gut wrenching. You wouldn't eat a big meal and then go run 5 tempo miles, would you? Not a good plan.
