Run a half marathon in under two hours.

Burt, if you were able to do Pat's Run at an average of 7:17/mile (just checked your race report again), you should probably be shooting for around 7:30/mile for your 10K, assuming it is not real hilly. This would actually put you at around 46:30. For training, make sure you are getting in your miles, and make sure that the last 2-3 days prior are easy miles. I don't think much tapering is required for a 10K, other than making sure that you don't hammer your legs with a hard workout the week prior.

James - They don't have a course map, but from the description I'm able to trace out what I think it will be on GoogleEarth. The race is out and back. It appears as though the first half of the race has a 300 foot climb. The steepest section is a 4.7% slope for 0.6 miles. I figure I should get some hill training in this Saturday, but the race is the following Saturday. Is that too close to "hammer" my legs?

That's plenty of time. Just don't overdo it this weekend and you should be fine. It's more important Wed-Fri to make your runs nice and easy.

When I am doing a 10k race, I might get away with a decent session on the sat/sun, then it would be maybe a half session like instead of 6x 1mile I would do 3x 1 mile but faster with more recovery and then easy runs over the wed/thurs/frid, and rest the day before a race, or if your racing sat, rest on thurs and real easy 1-2 miles jog on friday! just my thoughts and my coach would tell me to do this..
